Yay for babies!! That is so cool! I was lucky this last summer, I had eggs hatching in the bator about the same time as mama's were hatching, so I didn't have to brood anybody for more than a week!

I am hoping if I do hatch some out a few days after hers that I can stick them with her bunch and she'll take them in. if not, well, "the hatchery" is open for business again, I guess

I keep wanting to go out and check on her, but I know I'd better not check again until it's their bedtime, she gets snitty with me if I stand there and stare at her.

Well can you blame her? I mean don't most females having babies get moody and go through hormonal changes? At least that's what I was told by those who know!

Ok, Update attn: Cindy!!

the chick that hatched came out of an egg with a C on it. It's yours, not sure what it is (you know what they were, I didn't check them that closely). It is a dark looking chick (still wet). So far just the one.

Will have more updates probably tomorrow morning, not sure I'll be able to update on the hatch tonight, it's almost time for them to go inside. It's so nice out, though, none of them want to go anywhere near the coop.

, I think it's just cause she's a snitty bird, anyway

unless you've got treats, then she's your best buddy (hence the name "Miss Piggy").

If you love birds you have come to the right place.

) My black giants are not pure as I am working on them trying to get some red into them.

All:
I have to go to work tonight and I couldn't sleep today so I am going to be hurting tonight.

Oh I did hatch out 11 of 12 on around New Years day. 3 on the 31st, 5 on the 1st and 3 on the 2nd. I broke the 12th one putting the incubator into the truck. It dried out and died.

I tried to hook up an inverter to my cigarette lighter but the lighter wouldn't work. So I increased the heat in the cab and pressed on. When I plugged the incubator in... it showed 110 degrees. so I thought I had cooked them all and was very pleasantly supprised when almost all hatched. They are mixed Jerseys and some barred rocks. All kind of ugly. Just balls of black and white fuzz.

I still want to see some pics of the Del/Cornish chicks

I'm still trying to decide if I want a Cornish roo or Cornish hens to throw into the meaty/dual mix.

, I didn't look close enough to see if it had feather feet - I didn't want to tick her off any more than I had to.

so far no other babies, but I'm actually surprized that one hatched today - I didn't expect any action til tomorrow at least.

Awesome Cindy! I must have missed the post, how many survived to the hatching stage.
