Kentucky people

Ed went so far as to tell us if we have a problem with folks doing bad things on our land, then don't call him til it's over (IOW shoot first) then call him and he knows some good sinkholes we can use to dump the body.

I think he was half serious.

Although, Kentucky does have one of the least restrictive Castle Laws in the country - so maybe he was serious

(well, maybe not about the sink-hole part....

)

What's a Castle Law?

a Castle Law is one that states that if someone is performing a misdemenaor or felony on your land (in other words, breaking in, endangering your property, livlihood, life etc..) you can shoot them.

Most states say that if you are not in immediate danger of bodily harm, you have to stand by and watch them perform whatever act they are performing - Kentucky says the heck with that - shoot the suckers, then let the court figure it out. In Kentucky you do not have to back off and watch it happen - you can act without waiting for them to actually harm you or yours.

Of course, even if the court says you were in the right, you still may be liable for civil cases by the felon's family and friends.

but personally, if it were a matter of someone coming onto my land and threatening my family or farm, I'd shoot em and figure out the court problem later.

Well, maybe we ought to corner the local market then

they don't have them cause they don't know how cute they are (or how tasty, in the case of the bigger ones) we just need to educate them

Yeah, I'm on order with pop for A&M and jumbo eggs for next week. The A&M's I sold at the auction a few weeks ago did pretty well for the cheapos around here. I might just keep A&M's, people think they are something special since they are white! I had someone ask me if they were doves!

I'm gonna hit it hard at the amish auction!! That's where most of the quail I hatch from pop's eggs will be going! I'll keep a few breeder quads or quints for myself, but other than that they'll be used for profit!

Well, yesterday when Jamie came over to get eggs, I asked him if he would be interested (at a later date) in quail for eating (you should see this guy's grill - I'm jealous, he must have spent a MINT on this thing - it smokes, it grills, it uses wood - or if you wish charcoal, but wood is the reccomended fuel - it is beautiful!! it's like the Taj Mahal of grills!! )

He asked how much I'd sell them for, and I had no clue, I said I'd get back to him - he is interested, though.

Or find your constable to show you where those sinkholes are!

I didn't know that about Kentucky, I'll make sure not to go somewhere that isn't expecting me!

well, I think you have to at least be doing something that would indicate that you were up to no good.

But, if someone were to, say, sneak onto your property after dark and be messing around with/stealing from your coops or animals, you could shoot them.

I think a big part of why it is so loosely worded is that it is so rural in most of the state that by the time the Law got to your place, it would be all over and your family and you would be dead, and the perps would be long gone.

eta - which is, I believe, how it ought to be - go back to when you could actually protect what you worked hard for, and you'll have less crime to begin with - if a bad guy knows you have a gun and are allowed to use it, they would be less willing to come onto your proerty and do bad deeds, IMO.

heck, back in Michigan ya got to show them your own wound before you're "allowed" to fight back

Yeah, either that or Kentucky is so 'backwoods' that they just don't care!

Hey, did I tell you about my quail? After mario49 gets his quad from me, I'll be left with a male and 4 females!! I lost one male a week ago or so, so out of the 16 eggs I hatched, I only had 4 males!! How cool is that?

ETA: But trespassing is a crime too, so that's why I said I'd make sure the people knew I was coming!

That's cool, I always get too many males. I'm pretty sure the two orps I hatched are both males

I may keep one to use as a flock roo later this fall, the other one will have to go.

Dad has 2 or 3 buff orp girls if you would be interested. That would give me less mouths to feed.

ETA: though, I have been snatching some of his layer feed and giving that to them. They are about 3 or 4 months old, so they should be okay with it. If not, I don't really care. I'm sick of feeding them. He doesn't help get my feed, but they are 'his' chickens.

I can't wait till I get my coop built!
somad.gif

And then he gripes about the chickens sitting on the porch and pooping everywhere, when half of them are his!
