Where is everyone?? Is this thread getting abandoned or what?

Did anyone else see the new 'rules' for the BST forums? Pretty crazy if you ask me. You can't 'talk' at all in there, and it even says not to question the OP? I'm not sure if that means you can't ask them a question about what they are selling, or if it means they don't want you asking if what they are selling is what they say (like EE versus ameracauna). They are even restricting the swap threads, so I don't see how those will do any good. Even the Feb. swap thing. Barnyard posted that one for people that are interested to post and say that they were entering it. That would be considered chatting, wouldn't it? Crazy, if you ask me. I think I'll just post what I have to offer for sale in my siggy, and not even mess with the BST forums.

Shelley, I'm here. We lost power yesterday around 6:00pm due to the winds. It finally came back on around 10:45 this morning. Lucklily I have a battery powered B&W 13" tv to watch. There were over 40,000 people in Louisville area that lost power this time.

Funny thing, the Ice storms didn't cause me to lose power, just the stupid winds!

That's probably what's happened to alot of people today, is that they are waiting for the power to come back on.

I have skimmed the new rules, and I think someone is on a power trip there.

Hey yall! It's been awhile since I have been on here so I thought I'd say howdy.

This unusually warm weather is starting to encourage the girls to lay but I can't wait until they kick it into high gear. lol

I agree, they are really silly. I understand about the bumping thing, but the way I take it, I can't even go in their thread and say 'how much would it be for 6?' or 'how much is shipping to...' I know DDD has people post to the thread to see how much the shipping to them would be. So in a way, wouldn't that be bumping? There is no place to ask about it that I have found, and it is a bit confusing.

Luckily, we didn't lose power. It tried to go out, it dimmed real low and came back on a few times, but other than that, it was okay. It didn't even kill my clock like it usually does, so it never actually went out. But that's good, my son gets scared to death when the power goes out! He can be sound asleep and wake up if it does! Even when there is nothing on (TV, radio, lights), it will still wake him up if the power goes out. He's always been like that.

Well I guess you can always PM them for any additional information not in their original post. And I can understand about the bumping thing, however a legitimate question to the seller should be allowed to be posted instead of having 20 people send a pm with the same question, and the general chit chat should be in the appropriate forum like this.

But a lot of the swap threads are mostly chit chat, with a little bit of swapping in between. Maybe someone should suggest opening a new forum just for swaps? I wonder how well that would go over? Not at all, my guess!

From where the weather has warmed up my two barred rock hens are now starting to lay every day. have ordered 35 rhode Island red chicks will recieve about the first of March Can't wait to go pick them up.

I finally got half the ducks sorted out to choose from to keep - I may keep all 10, or I may narrow that down further. I have three males and 7 females (I think/hope).

Went to get feed today, I got some of the 16% and mixed it half and half with Flock Raiser - looked good enough to cook up for breakfast, The chickens love it. They been attacking it since I put some out for them. The 16% at Day & Day is MUCH nicer than the powdery stuff (that costs more) at M&W.

Julie talked me into trying 5 Cornish Cross. I wasn't going to bother with those, but then I thought I may as well get a few to give me some comparison when I start butchering the Dual Purpose birds. They'll be here mid March, I think she said.

I also plan to get 5 Light Brahmas when I go in there for Chick Days. I figure that way I'll get at least one Cockerel (probably more

) and I can raise it up so when I put Mr. Speckles with the Dellie Pullets, I'll have a Light Brahma roo for the Brahma girls.

I may also grab a few other chicks to toss into the mixed flock, we'll see

I'm gonna have my hands full with babies for a long while, it seems. If I do get more for the mixed flock, I'll probably get some more Black Australorps - I like their personality.

Did She say when the chick days is? I think dad got his last year in January, least that's what he says. Not like I need standard sized chicks, but hey, if they're free, I can take and sell them at Sano!

I always buy chick starter anyway. I think I might actually just start getting flock raiser. It is okay to use for chicks, ducks, quail, basically everything except turkeys, from hatch to 16 weeks or so, and I believe it's cheaper. Plus, if I get just one kind, I can get more bags at once and just dump it all in the barrel, instead of keeping it in bags. I think those barrels will hold 3 bags loose, as opposed to 2 bags in the bag. It would save me from having to go to the feed store every week!

Okay, I give, what are chickl days and where are they at?

Just remember that Cornish Cross will mature faster than your dual purpose birds, as they were designed for maximum growth in a short period.
