Julie - she wasn't there today (or she was at lunch, maybe, it was about noon time)

I could offer some duck eggs to folks, I guess, I've just been setting them all

- I know they're fertile, cause all the ones I set have veining in them. How much would you charge for call duck eggs? (some blues, some blue mixed with khaki) . I think these guys are more pet quality than show quality, but they sure are cute and funny.

I'm not sure, but you should try putting them on that auction thread I told you about. The one I did that was just duck eggs was for 6+, and they sold for $9. And mine are mixed breeds! Most people that have pure breeds charge like $25 for 6+ including shipping, depending on the quality they could go for more. Or just list them at whatever you want and see if someone is willing to pay what you want for them. Having only 2 girls, you probably wouldn't be able to do more than 6+, so like 8, per order anyway. How much did you pay for the ducks?

ETA: I think at least $2 per egg, but it would depend on what people would be willing to pay.

I paid 10 bucks each for the ducks. Yeah, I'd only be able to do 6 eggs at a time. If it were local pickup I could do more eggs at a time.

I'm hoping to hatch out some more girls, so I can have more eggs at a time next spring. It's too bad Toby killed those other two

eta - I wonder if anyone out at Sano would buy hatching eggs.

You'd probably need more girls and boys, since call males aren't very fertile. Most people keep them in pairs from what I have heard.

ETA: Just saw your edit. They will buy them, but don't let anyone touch them!! My friend Larry said there was one time that someone had taken some goose hatching eggs there. One guy was looking at them, and SHAKING them to see if they were good!! Make sure you keep your eye on them if you do!

the idiot.

Yeah, I wouldn't let anyone touch them unless they handed me money first.

Cindy had pairs - but the hawk got her Khaki boy before she sold them to me, and then Toby and Lily got the splash pair, here, so instead of three pair - I got a trio, now. The drake is getting both girls, though, so the fertility is good on them. I'd rather have pairs, however - except for the fighting at breeding time sort of sucks

Yeah, that one of yours must be a real brute! I have 6 males and only 4 females on the pond. There are certain ones that stick together, mainly the cayuga pair, but other than that, they all get along pretty well. Of course, when one of the boys gets his groove on, the others feel the need to either come and cheer him on, or try to get him away.

but they get along pretty well for the most part!

The blue drake is a monster about his girls!! He is so "randy" that he would attack the splash girly while she was trying to run away from him. Talk about a horny little duck!! I don't know if all Call Duck Drakes are like that or not, but he sure is!!!

I just hope he doesn't try that with the Swedes when they get bigger

he might have a bigger fight on his hands than he is ready for.

Yeah, you'll probably have to keep them seperate from the other ducks, once they get bigger. And if you get geese, they'll probably need to be seperated too. I have heard different people say different things about ducks and geese together, some say it's okay, some say it isn't. I think since the geese are so much bigger, I'd rather not take my chances! But mine will most likely all be on the pond anyway. I'm going to get some stuff to make them a 'house' out there, so I can lock them in at night. It would be too tempting having all those guys down there! And then that way, I wouldn't have to hunt so much for eggs.....maybe

I don't really have any extras right now, but I can let you know when I do? Most of the ones that are still hatching are spoken for already. I am up to 30+ with 60-some eggs to go, but the one person wants 50 of them, and I need to keep some for myself. My son loves quail eggs!

We have POL buff orp pullets, but we aren't in your area.
