cause I could never remember, so you're probably more right than I am. I wrote it down, somewhere.....

BC was about 6 weeks old when I gave her back to Cindy - then she came back home with me again. She's such a nice chicken

I can't go the yard sale, but I thought it was a neat idea -

if I didn't live on the buttend of beyond, I'd have a yard sale and sell some chickens.

eta - I'd love to check out the sewing stuff she has - even though I never have time to sew on my quilts or anything else, for that matter.

If you hadn't mentioned that you thought they hatched in Dec, I would have never gotten my brain working! I don't think Heidi is quite as old as BC, either that or she was a bit older? Do you remember?

Oh, good news all! Gertie has at least 5 chicks so far, with 7 more eggs to go!!
wee.gif
And one of Cris's goofy silkies is setting on 17 eggs, and most of them should be silkies!
gig.gif
She looks like roadkill all flattened out like she is, but she is covering them all!
lau.gif
Oh yeah, and I have 2 of 5 bantam ee eggs hatched in the bator, so I didn't kill them all this time

Sheesh, it's my sister, she knows I got teenage boys and what they do to a bathroom!! (she has teenage twin boys the same age as my two - so it's just as bad at her house

)

Of course, her having twin boys Eli and Jake age 19, and Jon is 19, and Sam is 18 - made it nice for family get togethers - we had built in playmates for years.

talk to ya all later -

A yard sale with chickens? Where? My husband finally did say that if I could find the breeds I want I can go ahead and get up to three more chicks. Either I get them now or I have to wait two years (I am hoping to be pregnant next spring and hubby doesn't want chicks in the house then). Anyway, I know I am new and I don't know anyone yet for which I sincerely apologize, but if anyone knows of a place I can find silver or gold laced wyandottes and/or blue orpingtons please post or pm me. If not then I guess I can try to wait that long but it will be hard...
btw, thank all of you. I love reading this particular topic and hearing about others in Kentucky. I can't wait until I am more experienced and have more to share. I also can't wait until we can move out to the country and I can have a BIG flock (or two or three). Ideally I'd love to eventually raise blue orpingtons, buff orpingtons, and have a third flock that I can get all kind of exciting breeds in just for me.
I know I am new and my chicks are only 4.5 weeks old but I DO love my buff orpingtons, they are by far the sweetest!

This yard sale is in Adair County, close to Russell county line. I doubt she has any of those breeds, most of her breeds are mixed as well I'm sure. My dad has 2 SLW hens that he doesn't need, if you are interested in those. He sold both of his roos.

Thanks so much Shelley! How old are the hens? I was thinking of chicks but I can see how much influence I have over my husband

. I really appreciate it, even if he will not be persuaded to let me get full grown hens. I will have to ask him in the morning as he works 3rd shift. Speaking of which... I guess it is waay past my bedtime, forgive me if I am a little incoherent. I will check in tomorrow and will see about those SLWs!

I'm starting to think that you are just trying to tempt me with birds....and you are soooo close! If only I could get my hubby on board......

Oh yes, it takes LOTS of chickens to equal 1 goat...I'm sure. There might even be scientific proof out there somewhere.

Mine aren't full fainting yet, just getting stiff hind legs right now. The guy we got them from said they don't start fully fainting until 5-6 months of age. I can't wait to watch them!! Believe it or not, the fainting is not supposed to hurt them at all....so hopefully no heart attacks!

Wonder how many guineas it would take to keep a few acres tick free?? Our indoor dog was outside for a few hours the other day and we had to pull atleast 9 ticks off of him....

I'd get at least 6 (depending on what a few acres is

).

I'd shoot for more females than males. Although, in my experience, both are about the same agression-wise towards your chickens.

My guineas were raised from keets with the chickens - they liked some of them, despised others of them - with no seeming rhyme or reason - so the ones they despised they attacked on a regular basis.

I got rid of all of my guineas. The chickens do almost as good a job at tick control as the guineas did.
