Houston, we have a problem
My swedish ducks - whom are absolutely gorgeous and I dearly love to watch them wander around the yard - are my problem. The girls are fine - it's Kronk - my drake.
Kronk is just realizing he is sexually mature - and he is going after EVERYONE!!! (they are 19 weeks old - almost ready for the girls to start laying, and Kronk has been practicing his manly-dance on them for a week or two).
Today he went after DD, Sloopy!!!, and Lucy the goose!! Little Joe about had a fit about the call duck girls - he kept trying to attack Kronk and get him off, but Joe is about 1/3 Kronk's size, so he had little effect. Lucy, to her credit, more or less just glanced behind her like "what was that?"
Sloopy is smaller than DD, however, and isn't even mature enough for that sort of thing. Sloopy is one of the smallest call ducks here.
Tonight Kronk is in a pen with a doghouse - all by himself. The pen is inside the duck pen, so he isn't "alone" but he is in jail.
I hate to say it, but I may have to choose one breed or the other - and I'm pretty sure the swedish are gonna lose. They are SO pretty
I'm bummed - big time. I bought those from Ideal because I liked how they looked in the pics - these guys are fat and healthy and just beautiful (did I mention how pretty they are???).
I have no idea even how much to charge for them if I do have to sell them. A point of lay quad of ducks - nice patterns, healthy, shiny... horny
any ideas on how much folks might spend on that?
Poor Sloopy - she didn't even want to go in the pen tonight - now I know why I've had to hunt down DD and Joe the last few nights when it was bedtime.
On the bright side - if I do sell the swedish, I'll have more room for call ducks - but those swedish are so pretty
for comparison - the blue one here in front is Squishy - she is larger than Sloopy is by a bit -
see how tiny poor Sloopy is compared to big old Kronk?
