Kentucky people

Cindi and moonflowers,

I too have 5 roos under house arrest and are currently in the clearance isle. I plan on taking them to Paris this next weekend to the ag extension where the monthly swap takes place. (every second weekend of the month) Hopefully I can get my gas money back.

I need someplace like Sanyo up here close.

I have decided it's time to switch gears. I have enough cross bred chickens now that I can get rid of my pure breeds, and just work with the crosses.

Time to cull. Too many little ones that don't measure up. I will be keeping my NH's as both hens have gone broody this year.

I'm already working on that - the top pen is all my "for sale" chickens.

Although, I do have a few in the lower pen for sale - they are also from my "keeper" choices.

Kenny called me yesterday, he is stopping by today Rooster shopping - he wants a red roo!!

I have one (can't seem to sell him) but I also know that the reason he needs one is his other roo flogged his little girl yesterday, and he wants a gentle one - and I have a spare buff orp roo that is 4 months old - he would be perfect. I'm gonna try to talk him into the buff orp roo - I think he'll be happier with him.
I hate to sell a red roo to someone with two small kids. Besides, the buff orp roo is much bigger and prettier than that red roo. Same age, but the red roo is a smaller roo is all. All of the buff orps are huge compared to the other chickens their same age.

His girls are only 7 and 4 - they need a gentle roo - not a psycho roo.

Someone who wants crosses? That's a change! I'm getting tired of having birds that should be pure, yet look like crosses.

My ameraucanas are such a disappointment. I have 6 chicks in the brooder that are supposed to be ameraucanas. There are 7 chicks total. One of the 7 has a straight comb, and another one has feathered legs. So I've either got a straight combed ameraucana, or another one of those danged naked necks. I'm just going to get rid of all of them and start over. My one that I hatched this winter is supposed to be black, but he has red feathers on both his wings

I had 1 lone chukar hatch last night, but there are 2 more pipped. Hopefully I'll get at least a couple more babies, these eggs were local. There were 12 to start, and one quit about halfway through. The rest all looked good when I put them in the hatcher, so I don't know what the deal is with them. They aren't due till today or tomorrow, so maybe I'll get lucky

I have 2 ringneck pheasant eggs that are due in a few days, so far they seem like they are gonna make it. So I'll get to find homes for them, I sure don't want them!

I should also have a few bobwhite quail chicks in a week or so. My neighbor has some bobwhites, and he had brought me some of their eggs. I don't want those either, so if anyone is interested, just let me know.

I have some white cornish bantams due to hatch tomorrow. They are under a hen. I checked them yesterday or Friday, and she has 8 of 12 eggs still going strong. Should have decent results, if they are what they're supposed to be. I've gotten some messages about the person I got my eggs from, guess there have been some on here that didn't get what they paid for. As long as they're pure, I really don't care, unless they are different breeds. But all these eggs looked the same, so whatever they are, they should all be

Then I'll have some 'for sale' guineas the beginning of next week. I believe these were 'normal' or 'mixed' colors, so I probably won't be keeping any of them.

My bator is almost empty, then I can focus on my quail. I don't have hardly any chicken eggs right now, most all of my hens are broody. But Gertie, the silkie/game, Gretta, the OEG, and Gretta's no-name OEG mix daughter, have all started laying again. All 3 of these girls have hatched chicks already, so they are pretty determined! Gretta and Gertie have basically hatched chicks ever since I've gotten them.
I got Gertie last summer, as a POL pullet. I think it was the end of June when she started laying. Since then, she has hatched chicks 5 or 6 times, I can't remember for sure.
Gretta joined us last fall, either Sept. or Oct., with 6 chicks in tow. Since then, she has hatched chicks 3 more times. Good girls

Gretta's no-name daughter just started laying this spring, she was one of the 'in tow' chicks. So she'll probably be a major broody as well. I just hope she learns how to take care of her babies, I think the last ones were left around 3 weeks old.

Well, sorry for the book guys, guess I've been a bit out of it.

Welcome Hunter1hall. There are several people down your way. Mojo Meri, Shelleyd, cthrash and others. If your comming up to Lexington give me a hollar and I'll part with some mixed breeds that lay small eggs. Friendly but small.

I will. They are due to hatch on the 15th, so I'll let you know. I have 7 that are still going strong, so we'll see. I haven't had any luck hatching guineas before, so this will be an experience.

I googled it, looks like Mackville is about 30 miles (+/-) north from Lebanon.

a bit of a drive, but it's never too far to drive for chickens

eta - hunter1hall : Spydertoys has some point of lay pullets (some already laying) and I have some that'll be laying in a month or so. Spydertoyz has a LOT of them, so try PM-ming her.

you do know, however, that one coop is NOT gonna be enough

I had one coop - just wanted a few hens for eggs.....

I now have four coops, a waterfowl pen - 20-some ducks, three geese and about 200+ chickens.

it's addictive.

Oh, and you'll be wanting an Incubator for Christmas

Ok, so how many of you have answered the phone and heard....

"Hello, my name is Blah Blah and I'm calling because you requested information on debt relief..." and they DO NOT STOP talking - even when you say No, you didn't request information, don't call here again, etc....

These Jacka$$es call me at least twice a week.

I have a solution... not sure if it's legal but screw em, I'm gonna do it anyway.

Since they won't listen to what I say, and won't stop talking... well, I went to my trusty Walmart and got me an Air Horn.

Next time those idiots call me, they're gonna get it, right in the ear.

We'll see if they're so quick to call here again.

gggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

eta -- if ya want one for yourself, they're by the party supplies and only cost a couple bucks

heehee......I already want an incubator. I also secretly figured out that the run can be added on to and maybe a coop on the other side of it. Hubby just doesn't know my plans yet

He has to be eased into things. lol
