Someone who wants crosses? That's a change! I'm getting tired of having birds that should be pure, yet look like crosses.
My ameraucanas are such a disappointment. I have 6 chicks in the brooder that are supposed to be ameraucanas. There are 7 chicks total. One of the 7 has a straight comb, and another one has feathered legs. So I've either got a straight combed ameraucana, or another one of those danged naked necks. I'm just going to get rid of all of them and start over. My one that I hatched this winter is supposed to be black, but he has red feathers on both his wings
I had 1 lone chukar hatch last night, but there are 2 more pipped. Hopefully I'll get at least a couple more babies, these eggs were local. There were 12 to start, and one quit about halfway through. The rest all looked good when I put them in the hatcher, so I don't know what the deal is with them. They aren't due till today or tomorrow, so maybe I'll get lucky
I have 2 ringneck pheasant eggs that are due in a few days, so far they seem like they are gonna make it. So I'll get to find homes for them, I sure don't want them!
I should also have a few bobwhite quail chicks in a week or so. My neighbor has some bobwhites, and he had brought me some of their eggs. I don't want those either, so if anyone is interested, just let me know.
I have some white cornish bantams due to hatch tomorrow. They are under a hen. I checked them yesterday or Friday, and she has 8 of 12 eggs still going strong. Should have decent results, if they are what they're supposed to be. I've gotten some messages about the person I got my eggs from, guess there have been some on here that didn't get what they paid for. As long as they're pure, I really don't care, unless they are different breeds. But all these eggs looked the same, so whatever they are, they should all be
Then I'll have some 'for sale' guineas the beginning of next week. I believe these were 'normal' or 'mixed' colors, so I probably won't be keeping any of them.
My bator is almost empty, then I can focus on my quail. I don't have hardly any chicken eggs right now, most all of my hens are broody. But Gertie, the silkie/game, Gretta, the OEG, and Gretta's no-name OEG mix daughter, have all started laying again. All 3 of these girls have hatched chicks already, so they are pretty determined! Gretta and Gertie have basically hatched chicks ever since I've gotten them.
I got Gertie last summer, as a POL pullet. I think it was the end of June when she started laying. Since then, she has hatched chicks 5 or 6 times, I can't remember for sure.
Gretta joined us last fall, either Sept. or Oct., with 6 chicks in tow. Since then, she has hatched chicks 3 more times. Good girls
Gretta's no-name daughter just started laying this spring, she was one of the 'in tow' chicks. So she'll probably be a major broody as well. I just hope she learns how to take care of her babies, I think the last ones were left around 3 weeks old.
Well, sorry for the book guys, guess I've been a bit out of it.
