Kentucky people

I have been Showing cats for 25yrs, We breed and show Cornish Rex,Japanese Bobtails and exotic Shorthairs. We have horses and two dogs. I have been interested in chickens since I was young, Looking to get a few to start,I have also been checking out incubators.

Had my first egg explode in the bator today - luckily it was a quail egg, so it was small, and it didn't so much explode as sort of the top came off and it oozed stinky all over the place.

wow. I hope that doesn't happen again anytime soon

Hi, Welcome to BYC! I am up in Boone County, so not too far from you. I have looked for close swaps too, but they are hard to come by it seems. I think there is a swap once a month in Shelbyville, down near Louisville, that is kind of close. I also think I heard of one around Paris, don't know how often that one happens. All the others I hear about are no where close to here. What kind of birds are you looking for, maybe I have heard of someone who has them. I have a few mixed bantams right now, a few bantam cochins, and I think a few silkies.

That sucks! Atleast it was a little egg.

Houston, we have a problem

My swedish ducks - whom are absolutely gorgeous and I dearly love to watch them wander around the yard - are my problem. The girls are fine - it's Kronk - my drake.

Kronk is just realizing he is sexually mature - and he is going after EVERYONE!!! (they are 19 weeks old - almost ready for the girls to start laying, and Kronk has been practicing his manly-dance on them for a week or two).

Today he went after DD, Sloopy!!!, and Lucy the goose!! Little Joe about had a fit about the call duck girls - he kept trying to attack Kronk and get him off, but Joe is about 1/3 Kronk's size, so he had little effect. Lucy, to her credit, more or less just glanced behind her like "what was that?"

Sloopy is smaller than DD, however, and isn't even mature enough for that sort of thing. Sloopy is one of the smallest call ducks here.

Tonight Kronk is in a pen with a doghouse - all by himself. The pen is inside the duck pen, so he isn't "alone" but he is in jail.

I hate to say it, but I may have to choose one breed or the other - and I'm pretty sure the swedish are gonna lose. They are SO pretty

I'm bummed - big time. I bought those from Ideal because I liked how they looked in the pics - these guys are fat and healthy and just beautiful (did I mention how pretty they are???).

I have no idea even how much to charge for them if I do have to sell them. A point of lay quad of ducks - nice patterns, healthy, shiny... horny

any ideas on how much folks might spend on that?

Poor Sloopy - she didn't even want to go in the pen tonight - now I know why I've had to hunt down DD and Joe the last few nights when it was bedtime.

On the bright side - if I do sell the swedish, I'll have more room for call ducks - but those swedish are so pretty

for comparison - the blue one here in front is Squishy - she is larger than Sloopy is by a bit -

see how tiny poor Sloopy is compared to big old Kronk?

Meri, I know how you feel. Samson, my Gold Duckwing OEGB Roo is the same way, he has two girls of his own, 2 Mille Fluer D'Uccles and the 7 Big girls plus 4 young Rainbow layer pullets, 2 Young RIR pullets, 2 young Buff Orpington pullets, a young Golden Polish pullet and a young EE pullet. I didn'ty think they were old enough yet but he was doing his best to get one of them today. It was funny enough watching him trying to get one of the big girls, but watching him chase the young ones, poor boy is really tired tonight!

I am looking for old english and modern Bantoms, I would also like a few ducks and turkeys. I have 2 8x10 wooden sheds I plan on converting to coops. I also have a 24x36,30x50 and a 40x60 pole barn that I may use instead. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
