Kentucky people

I'm just few minutes from yall in KY and wanted to let ya know
Clarksville TENNESSEE

pickup only
Satin Rooster (smooth silkie) bantam
1 year old in November
silver columbian based feathering, walnut comb, Bearded, Feathered feet, 5 toes,
blue earlobes
If you are unfamiliar with Satins, they are like Silkies in everyway except feathers...which enables you to have a lot more color variations than you can have with Silkies. Satins have very similar temperaments as Silkies.
His name is Joey...he follows me around like a dog would in the yard. He enjoys belly rubs laying on his back in my lap too! He is ready for his own flock.
He does have a tendency to peck or flog your legs/feet so I would not recommend him to a home with children. He will make someone some good looking babies though!!!

Kentuckians...I've been asking about winterizing my coop and doing research.
It just dawned on me that there is a Kentucky thread! For those of you with experience, what exactly do you do to winterize your coop? Wondering what is needed to keep my girls safe.

Basically heated watering base or other method to resist freezing and ventilated but draft-free coop. I added a cozy coop heater 1 time when wind chill was in the negative 20-30’s
And still had some get frostbite due to escape but in general no need for anything crazy

Have your chickens stayed safe in this?
I have sixteen and so far all are still well! I haven't let them out, just kept them in their coop. The coop has gotten down to 2 degrees but today was up to 15. I even had one of my chickens lay their first egg yesterday!

Some of my roosters have frost bite. I have a separate rooster bachelor pad for my Roos and it’s farther away from my house and it’s in an area that doesn’t have as good drainage, so they were probably wet from rain the night before it froze and now have frostbite 😞 I feel so bad for them. I have added extra straw and put bag balm on their waddles and feet. All my other animals are doing okay
