Kentucky people

I was cruising on CL earlier today (I don't see how anyone can find anything on that site by the way), and saw a listing for a farm house for sale. The title of the ad said $6000, so of course I had to look. It was right, the house was for sale for $6000, the only catch was that you have to move it.....

Could you imagine how much it would cost to move a house??

Well, the chicken that Lucy and Fred attacked the other day was dead this morning - I think she never got totally over the shock of it all.

Baby Donkey is adorable, as usual, but now he is brave and when I feed his mama in the morning, he takes the opportunity to come get scratchies. He's discovered these tall pale folks have fingernails that feel good on his neck and back, so he follows me around the pasture in the mornings while I feed everyone

I been calling him Boo - not sure what his name will eventually be. I think I'm falling in love with him, and I shouldn't do that. At this point I would trade TeaCake to keep Boo, though (TeaCake is such a jerk usually).

If I could just get Tea to mate with Butters, just ONCE, I would sell him off afterwards. Butters (nor any other donkey) will allow him to get that close to them. With him in lockdown, the rest of them are a lot more calm and composed this morning. I am wondering if it isn't a good idea to sell him, and bring some peace back to the rest of them. That's probably why I got him so cheap. Charm is not a word I would use to describe the little guy. Pretty, yes, but obnoxious (hmm, I used to date a guy like that - I got rid of him, too.)

Thing is, he is in lockdown not only because he was so aggressive with Michelle, but because I'm afraid he'll hurt Boo (carelessly more than on purpose). I can't have him harming the babies when they are born, even if it is accidental.

That would leave me without a mini jack, though. Blackjack is a smaller sized standard, so he could do the service for the minis without a problem, but Tea is a spotted, and those bring more money, I'd love to have a spotted jack that is NICE. Blackjack is pretty too, but just not spotted.

Hmmm both Mama and Butters carry the spotted gene, would that be enough if they mated with a black jack?

oh well

I woke up thinking 'Brrr! That cold front must have moved through last night'....Well, it apparently did, or is moving through, but that doesn't explain why it was so cold in here! Apparently dad decided that since the A/C wasn't kicking on before he left for church, he'd turn it down lower

So it was set at 74* so we could freeze to death

That man makes no sense. Why can't he open a window if he's too hot??

the Teenager's air conditioner took a major dump the other day. Will have to replace it (for 2500 bucks or so) so I have a couple of window units I'm gonna stick in there instead - he'll move out soon, I am not gonna spend all that money on a new central air unit for a guest house that gets used a few times a year.

Happily he doesn't need one right now, so I don't have to go dig them otu of the barn and clean them up and install them. If I'm lucky I can wait until spring to do so.

eta - gonna go try to get another pic of the blue cochin....

so.... roo or not?

if it were a LF I would say roo at that size, but being a bantam and not knowing it's age, I am having a hard time with it.

Hmmm... waiting for hubby to get his butt out of bed so I can go to Walmart and get more Grapette and some TP.

Anyway....

I'm considering selling off all the white quail - they are just so small, and I'm going for size. The goldens I have are pretty big, and I like those the best anyway, so I'll keep the wild color and the goldens, and breed those, I think.

Shelley, did you say that if I breed wild to golden they'll all be golden, or more will be golden than not?

(btw, tuxedos aren't mentioned because I never planned to keep any of those anyway.)

I can't wait to A) get the deck out back done so I can move a bunch of stuff out of the hatcher room to the other trailer - I'm not going up and down steps a hundred times carrying stuff. and B) get those young quail big enough to go otuside so I can clean the hatcher room.

then I'll probably hatch some more quail

but from my own stock, this time, to see how they do. Just a small batch, not 100+ eggs this time

heck, I have to test the fertility, right?

Put a window unit in the bedroom and one in the living room, that should be enough to make it tolerable. And make him clean them if he wants one! Sheesh!

Judging by the size, I'd say it's probably 3 months old, so I'm gonna say pullet.

I am guessing pullet, myself, simply because the roo I hatched out before looked definately ROO right after hatch, almost, and I figure if I have any doubts, this is probably a girl.

she/he is pretty, I know that

I want some blue LF cochins

Yeah, breeding golden to brown you get 2 of 3 chicks golden, and 1 of 3 brown.
I'll be setting quail eggs next week probably. I have a gap in sales, with no takers yet. But I still have the 3rd and 4ths eggs available, but I doubt they'll get sold with the holiday coming.
