The longer they are here, the more I just wanna keep em, lol

OH NO ... Guinea Keets! Just what I've been looking for, and they didnt have them at the Farmers Market in Leitchfield when I was ready for them! Now I have to wait until Spring! Will you have more?

I have some young guineas available if your interested. 3 are about 12 weeks old and another is about 9-10 weeks.

The show cages are provided by the show and you don't need health certificates if you are a KY resident. However, they often have state vets or representatives there to test birds.

Correction, some shows do require health certificates or NPIP testing based on the regulations for each show.

HMMMMM. Wonder about the Frankfort show. Can't seem to find any online info.

Thanks for the help!

When I called they said they were considering stocking it. Anybody in the area interested in organic feed should definately call and ask them about it. Maybe they will decide its important. At the very least maybe we can go in on it together, though I need to find out what exactly they can get. I like whole grains and soy free. Their number is 270-949-2276

We use Cecilia Farm Supply and they order us 10 bags of feed at a time. We finally gave up on the nutrena and found a good waterfowl feed and a Kent feed that has animal protein in it along with alfalfa, oats, wheat....etc. Great stuff and the birds go nuts over it.

If you can swing 10 bags it might be worth a try. We use more 10 bags a week here so it is not a big deal.

Sorry guys I didnt get on here all day yesterday... I was busy workin in the kitchen all day with pears, then when I was done for the night I sat on the couch & crocheted.

OH where were you when I was ready to buy Guinea Keets a few weeks ago!!!!!!!!!!! I was going to buy them there in Leitchfield and some lady bought all 60 or so! (what was she thinking????!!!!) And she is a beginner chicken keeper and never owned Guinea's! Boy is she in for it, she asked if they were loud! LOL Anyway...will you have some again in the spring?

I just sold the 5 Monday night...... I might have more this spring if I can catch em, like I did these, lol. My guineas free range & they dont lay their eggs in the coop so sometimes I get lucky & stumble across a nest or keets & when I do I take advantage of it. They parent still have 8 keets with em, but they wont let me get close to grab any

When we sell - Wed OR Sat are good days. Just depends on your chicks/hens/roo's. Healthy birds sell FAST! If you have a good history and are known for having good birds then you will get what you are asking for them, and wont have to lower your price. Stop in and take a look at the birds ... not all are, let me say this tactfully, oh I just wouldnt bring it into my flock to save my life or for no amount of money! Some brought there are just sad! So when they see a good bird, people pounce on it. If you sell reg. You meet good sellers, and ones that are honest. ANYWHERE though you have to be careful. It can be scary bringing any bird in your flock!

Ok, Thank You. I've got good lookin birds & chicks. I may try to sell some of my chicks up there... do you all think 2.00 a chick is too much, they are mutts, so are pure bantams. They are 4 weeks old.

Thanks hobbyfarmer... how much did you pay for the frizzle chicks, I bet they are so cute.

The chicks were $2 each - which I thought was a great deal on fully feathered chicks but we got an even better deal by taking all 6 chicks for $10.

Okm, Thanks. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Not sure you know about this, but if you do already then I apologize.

Guineas are hot weather birds who have some instinctive habits that help you find the nests. If you have some time, watch the hens. They'll disappear into a thicket or tangled up brush pile when the heat of the day starts to really set in. They are loners when they set, making nests on the edge of their territory. Ours would be right by the garden where the ground started to drop off, or between pastures where the fence line was grown up.

You'll see them start heading the same direction around the same time each day. It will give you an idea of which area to look. If they will wear one, band their necks in a snug bright piece of plastic. They don't eat big thinks anyway and a bit of color can mark them for you to see on the nest. Once the nest is located you can take the band off for safety's sake and place a stake close by with that color thumb tacked onto the top to know which hens nest it is.

I had 25 hens at one time. My yard looked like a wagon wheel with stakes all around the outer edges.

I've got 3 Muscovy 3 month old ducks... 2 girls & 1 boy that someone is wanting to buy from me. What should I try to sell em for? I have pics of them on my farm blog right now, link is below.

The males often seem to stand guard near the nest but not close enough as to draw attention to it. At least they do while the hen is laying. When the hen is setting she will fly to and from the nest so if you see one flying alone (if they get spooked the whole flock will take off flying instead of just one) you can get a general idea of where she's hiding out.

Anyone here going to the State Fair this weekend? We are going Friday and Saturday. I know I am going to want to bring chickens home, but I don't think I will be able to hang around long enough to pick them up Sunday night since I have to work at 7pm in Lexington.
