Kids Trader Joe's eggs hatched! - Update on Joey on post #147

We woke up to a baby chick in the bator! We've been giggling and doing the happy dance! Yeah!

I have to get kids ready for school. I'll post a pick in about 2 hours. And update at that time.

None of the others have pipped, so I pulled him out. I know I should have left him in the bator, but he was squished/ stuck between the carton to hold the eggs and the hardware cloth blocking the light bulb. He didn't seem to be able to get out. After an hour of struggling in the same spot, I removed him to the brooder. He seems okay in the brooder. He is generally under the red heat lamp, but he is walking around a little.

Before leaving for school, my son put a beany baby duck for a friend in and my daughter put her feather boa tied in a big knot for a mama. They are calling it Joey. It doesn't have any feathers in a stripe along the top of his head. Is that normal, or does it mean it is probably a male?

Regarding a fan for a homemade incubator -- I read a post somewhere on here that you can get a PC fan for $6 that works well.
