Surf BYC. A lot of people who have helped a chick out of a shell have had further issues (not always)...
I usually only go in for removal, but our first incubation had a hatchling attacked everytime she wanted out, so we went in to remove all the chicks and removed some shell so she could push easier to come out.
Incubating is definitely one of the harder tasks of chicken owning in my opinion). And finding random eggs greatly reduces your success rate.
I think you did a great jib getting them that far. Especially cracked and covered in blood....
