Dang! Cyprus is tearing me apart! Surely one hatchery’s line could be more friendly than another’s right? If anyone else can confirm friendly EE from ideal then I’ll probably go ahead with it. I know egg color isn’t guaranteed but they WERE pretty, and they did deal with the heat really well. Hmmmmm.

I reeeeally like legbar’s but I don’t think ideal has them, and Meyers is in Ohio.

I absolutely adore my white chanteclers. They are bred for colder climates though... the warmest it's gotten here is 30c and they seem to be doing well. I have buckeyes too. Not as calm or curious as the chanteclers. They also seem to not do as well in the heat.
One breed that does well in heat, but I absolutely dislike is a leghorn. They're just mean. I had leghorn hens that stripped my buckeye hens bald. They're extremely flighty as well.

I love my Swedish Flower Hens. They are beautiful birds and very curious. They walk right up to me and see what’s going on. They are a landrace breed from Sweden. Pretty good layers of cream colored eggs.

I have Wheaten Ameraucanas too. Love their bearded little faces. Not overly fluffy. Again curious and not afraid. Fair layers of beautiful blue eggs.

My OE is super flighty. I feel bad approaching her. She seems scared. It could just be her... Lays wonderful “bartlet pear” eggs regularly.

My FBCM are big beefy girls. Probably would not be happy in heat. They are unafraid but not overly friendly.

I have a few more breeds. I’d say the Swedish Flowers fit your criteria pretty good.

I've been looking at Swedish Flower. Maybe a few years from now I'll branch into raising them.

@Tesumph Can I add Speckled Sussex to the list?
I only have one but she is great! More outgoing than my cochins (read Friendly! Inquisitive! Funny!) but still very mellow—not bossy or trouble making. Medium sized, single comb so more heat tolerant than my cochins too. And pretty! Mine is not a very good layer in terms of numbers (her eggs are super tasty though with a deep orange yolk) but you said that wasn't super important. My dad had SS for awhile too and they seemed to do just fine in a confined environment.

I also have leg bars but they are only 7 weeks old so I am not sure yet exactly what their temperament will be. They can be pretty flighty I hear, but mine were raised by Bubbles-the-friendly-broody and seem pretty tame so far Not sure how they do in confinement...maybe ask around on the leg bar threads?

My EE's are friendly and we love our Silver Laced Wyandottes, lol. The EE's lay pale blue eggs, not too small. They came from Belt Hatchery, which is in CA. For people on the West Coast, Belt doesn't have a huge selection but in less than ideal weather it's nice not to have to ship too far.

I really like Swedish flowers. Unfortunately ideal doesn’t sell them, or legbars. I would love to have both.. I dunno. Seems I have to settle for more common breeds unless I can find them somewhere closer

Speckled sussex, I have nothing against. But my first flock was 95% speckled Sussex and honestly they were just... super normal lol. Kind of boring I guess. I had the same experience with Australorps. Not much personality but I can see the appeal for sure

Oh and I greatly dislike leghorns as well.
