So sweet! What breed gets the cheek puffs? Will they lay blue eggs?:fl
believe it or not, aside from the specked white ones and those two little black Marans, they are all from the same breed of moms! This is a good example of crossing 2 hybrids and getting wildly different results in the offspring. The cheek puffs come from Dad’s Ameraucana father, the feathered feet from his Marans mama. He is an Olive (not) Egger cross, so I think* (could be totally wrong and they will all lay brown) 1/4 of the girls may lay green? I hope!

I love how you can see so many different variations expressing different traits from the grandparent breeds in the chicks. Only two of the Columbian Rock babies got mamas single comb, and the buff colored ones compared to the dark reds some even have what looks like lacing... it’s a shame there are so many boys though. I’m so tempted to keep some (especially the really big boys) for breeding experiments, but I already have way too many roosters!

FIL would make a great tv comedy. Living it day to day ~ not so much fun. :( :flfor both hatches ~ & I am expecting pictures guys: @rjohns39 @Kris5902 :)

Today is my day 19, I’m starting to creep my humidity up very carefully towards 60%, nothing happening yet though, I expect to be glued to the incubator for the next several days! And will try to get you all some pics and video, to make up for the rosebush attack not going as planned (need to find a shorter rose bush!)

Oh, and tonight I had a lost escapee chick huddled under the corner of the tarp on the chicken tractor! I went to put a chunk of plastic near a gap to keep them a little safer and got a chirp, one little girl had squeezed out a gap and was going to be camping out for the night! I corrected that and put everyone up properly for the night. It never fails, when Andrew is away I always get weird animal noises I can’t place at night. There’s a particularly annoying and large owl and his GF hanging out around here. And tonight I heard a really odd “squaaaa” noise, these owls make a high pitched “wheeeee”

Handsome boy and lovely ladies Kris. They are all looking very healthy. You must be very gratified after all your hard work. I always feel sorry for poor "de-beaked" chooks though. I feel the same way about "docking" dogs tails. Barbaric. Another one of my "soap boxes" :p

I’m up far too late tonight, I have trouble falling asleep when Andrew is away, likely I will be a little late in letting the chickens out tomorrow, grossly neglectful, I know... They might be cooped up until after it’s fully light out even!

Oh yes....sooooo neglectful!
My poor girls didn't get let out until over an hour after sunrise this morning. They were most indignant!:rant

P.S. I love those branches you have for roosting!

Good looking birds. You should good get good looking off spring as well. I love pictures of your flock.

I totally agree on the debeaking, and they look a little rougher now as they have been molting, though most not as hard as poor Croppy!
