Kristen’s Chickens and Farming Ventures

Hi everyone! Miss you all... and yes we are doing fairly well here on the Farm. Walls are staying put (down) until FIL comes back from Cuba and completes a two week quarantine. I found the plans scattered in the overturned shed, mixed up with several not for construction plans and other random paperwork. (Actual building permit lives in my fire safe)

I recently helped a friend move house and have been helping her get wood for heating, and have moved onto painting my other friends old house. I also picked up some paid work (grunt labor) for fire safety committee. Chicks are doing well, all 13 of them, and I will be moving them into the barn as soon as the big brooder has been cleaned out properly. There has been a lot of panic over but no Reported cases of the Covid 19 here. With the Median age of the island being 66 (that includes the young kids!)

We had a few more big trees come down on fences. Today one of the dogs was rushed into town after being backed over with the tractor. Delta has a dislocated hind leg and several torn ligaments. Surgery will be required and it may not be successful. I am hoping they go through with it and it works out. They actually saw my cats vet as most are closed due to the virus. I found the best Vet in the area, I know it. I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe!

It's all happening up there.

I hope Delta's operation goes well and she makes a full recovery:fl

Did you get a photocopy of those plans once you found them? Seize the opportunity!
Sorry you have to wait for FIL. At least you'll have 2 extra weeks not having to interact...

Great photos by the way. All those lovely wide open spaces make social isolation easier. Take care.

I'm so sorry about the dog. I hope everything turns out ok. :hugs

Is that the wall that blew down?

I’m not really able to make copies of the plans as they are huge sheets of paper. The whole social isolation thing does come a little easier with all this space, but we have been doing food deliveries and such. I can always hug the cows if I get too lonely.

Yes that’s our wall that blew down, and the random mess on the inside is the couple of interior walls that were up.

I am not sorry about the dog. I am angry. I do feel sorry for him though. He deserves better. They should be better trained, the Owner should be far more aware of them, and they shouldn’t be running around the cattle, or the equipment. But I do hope they go through with his operation. I’m really starting to believe some people here shouldn’t have livestock or any animals for that matter. Two dogs requiring major surgery in two years due to accidents? And a few other bad injuries in between as well...

That is sad. You have a responsibility to the animal to protect it even from itself. I dislike people who do not take their responsibility to their animals seriously. You seems to be around a number of people like that. I'm sorry you have to witness such malign indifference on a regular basis.

:(

Beautiful! But a little high strung? Sounds familiar... I’m thinking the alertness and activity level will help with predator avoidance

The one that I took the picture of is in the process of being sold in a couple of day's, along with at least one of the NN hen's. I'm keeping the other 2 Barnevelder's that are bigger then she is. I don't free-range mine.
