Kristen’s Chickens and Farming Ventures

Glad to hear from you, Kris. I've been thinking about you a bit the past few days wondering how you were doing. They are starting to close our interstate borders & limit travelling. Not sure how that will impact us yet. I have a DIL in S.A, which has just closed its borders, desperate to get up here to hubby with the kids but we are moving everything out of the house to put down new flooring so it's not remotely feasible until that's been done. Nice to hear you are doing ok & have an extended break from FIL.

I’m not really able to make copies of the plans as they are huge sheets of paper. The whole social isolation thing does come a little easier with all this space, but we have been doing food deliveries and such. I can always hug the cows if I get too lonely.

Yes that’s our wall that blew down, and the random mess on the inside is the couple of interior walls that were up.

I am not sorry about the dog. I am angry. I do feel sorry for him though. He deserves better. They should be better trained, the Owner should be far more aware of them, and they shouldn’t be running around the cattle, or the equipment. But I do hope they go through with his operation. I’m really starting to believe some people here shouldn’t have livestock or any animals for that matter. Two dogs requiring major surgery in two years due to accidents? And a few other bad injuries in between as well...
Just a thought - Take pictures of the Plans with a digital camera like they do on the old spy movies :) then you can stitch them together with MS Paint (free app in Windows) if needed or just view them on the PC . Sorry for the poor dog. I won't even ask how someone could be stupid enough to back over a dog (what if it was child !!)

Hi everyone! Miss you all... and yes we are doing fairly well here on the Farm. Walls are staying put (down) until FIL comes back from Cuba and completes a two week quarantine. I found the plans scattered in the overturned shed, mixed up with several not for construction plans and other random paperwork. (Actual building permit lives in my fire safe)

I recently helped a friend move house and have been helping her get wood for heating, and have moved onto painting my other friends old house. I also picked up some paid work (grunt labor) for fire safety committee. Chicks are doing well, all 13 of them, and I will be moving them into the barn as soon as the big brooder has been cleaned out properly. There has been a lot of panic over but no Reported cases of the Covid 19 here. With the Median age of the island being 66 (that includes the young kids!)

We had a few more big trees come down on fences. Today one of the dogs was rushed into town after being backed over with the tractor. Delta has a dislocated hind leg and several torn ligaments. Surgery will be required and it may not be successful. I am hoping they go through with it and it works out. They actually saw my cats vet as most are closed due to the virus. I found the best Vet in the area, I know it. I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe!

I try not to judge - But are they using enough nails !!
As always enjoy the beautiful scenery.

It's pretty crazy here in the States. If they don't start getting the stores restocked i fear there will be riots. So far people are taking it in stride but empty shelves and no meat won't play well for long.

If you can find it, Aloe vera and rubbing alcohol is all you need to make hand sanitizer. If anyone needs the recipe I'll drop it in.
Soap works well too. Everyone remember bars of soap?
I'm using straight 70% alcohol when out and about...soap and water at home.

The shelves at the grocery stores here look like a morgue. Empty but, for a damaged package of something or other. No hand sanitizer. Not even the little purse size bottles.

Meanwhile re-watching the "Stranger Things," episodes. They are better than I remembered.
That's a good way to cope.

Store shelves are empty, but restaurant supply companies are stuck with tons of food that is going to spoil.

problem meet solution
