Well, Hoppy is still in the house but doing better, standing on her own to eat and poop, and enjoying the pampering.
I'm glad Hoppy is doing better. Must be due to your excellent nursing skills!

Soon you'll be able to take her out for a short convalescent stroll in the grass!:love

Lol, that’s my goal! But she’s going to be my girl from now on, much to Sammy’s disappointment I’m sure! Strangely, I also should mention, one of the younger girls was standing protectively over her when I found her. I’ve also noticed this with Shanti and Gobbler, before I decided Roostie was going to be single for a while and divided the tractor to give the girls some space and a break from his attentions. Shanti will hide under Gobbler for protection, and Gobbler will actively cover her up when she gets distressed. Quite interesting to observe with two bowling ball shaped and sized CX.

I enjoyed reading your story. One of my kids went to a University in Maine so I went up and visited Maine and then used the opportunity to visit Canada a few times. It was amazingly beautiful and the air was so crisp and clean. I love the photo of the clouds and trees around your tractor.

Good morning Kris :frow I'm glad Hoppy's doing better
Good morning Bob :frow Thanks! I know it’s very unfarmer-ly of me... it makes zero sense economically, but if I’m going to farm I’m going to be doing it on my values, which includes caring for the animals as best I can regardless of their “worth”. I have no “just a chicken” setting and if I ever get there that will be when I know I need to quit.

Thanks! We are on the west coast, so the air here is thankfully a little less “crisp” (I don’t do cold winters!), we have giant evergreen trees and some spectacular ocean views. One day I would like to travel and see the east coast, and most of the USA. Once I get over my current aversion to camping, which has developed over the course of building our house here.

I couldn't agree with you more. I try to give mine the best of everything, I don't name them, but that doesn't change my husbandry goals.
