Kristen’s Chickens and Farming Ventures

Happy Birthday @BlueBaby !!! I’m simply awful at remembering these things... I forget DH’s every year, mix up my mom and dad’s, the only one I can remember is my cousin’s... because it’s May 4th and all the Star Wars stuff reminds me
I hope you have an awesome day!

Thank you! They opened up some of the restaurant's over here the end of last week, but the Black Angus is still closed, so I'll have my birthday prime rib later when they open. I can't see how people can eat in a restaurant having to wear a face mask anyway's. All of this face mask stuff make's everyone look like bank robber's or something. :gig

Thanks! We are on the west coast, so the air here is thankfully a little less “crisp” (I don’t do cold winters!), we have giant evergreen trees and some spectacular ocean views. One day I would like to travel and see the east coast, and most of the USA. Once I get over my current aversion to camping, which has developed over the course of building our house here.
I have seen quite a bit of the East coast of the USA, quite a bit of the West coast, some in-between, and some of Canada. It is a beautiful world out there, we just sometimes forget to enjoy where we are.

Most of mine don't get named, but a few do like Miss Foofy Face, Five, Shadow, and Gabby.

So today was chicken chores, which now includes breakfast in bed (basket :p ) for Hoppy,

and then on to Fertilizer spreading at Noon. It was about two hours of unloading the pallet of fertilizer into the spreader and waiting for the next load. But the view was nice as the rain had more or less stopped about an hour before.

This led into Afternoon trailer cleaning for DH, and finishing (almost) Sammy’s new chickshaw inspired pallet tractor/coop thing. It of course took far longer than anticipated, but I think it’s a workable housing solution for free ranging. We will need to see if he puts everyone up properly in it tomorrow. I moved them in right before dusk tonight, and they figured out the roosts and all settled in nicely in about an hour. They had to figure out what the best roosting spots are and who gets them, of course! It sure isn’t pretty, and the wheels are being a PITA, but that can be a tomorrow project. My Internet is being crummy so more pictures of it tomorrow!

That means it’s moving day for the meat chicks! All 62 (one runt got moved into the brooder box with my last spring hatchlings... and that’s yet another story...) will be moving out and onto grass at the tender age of 3 weeks old tomorrow morning. We have had one loss to a raccoon at the foster property with the layer chicks (took a pullet chick too, of course). Now my “they are too young to free range” is sinking in and we need to build a run to go with the coop until the chicks are big enough and predator aware enough to be left alone outside for any length of time. Also on the schedule for tomorrow is moving the house panels onto the floor again and out of the way of the perimeter drain installation and more waterproofing for the foundation.

As long as we are all healthy bank robbers!

Good morning Kris :frow

Sounds and looks like forward progress, that's a good thing.

Good Morning Bob! Fingers crossed for forward progress. If FIL and now BIL would share the tractor instead of using it as a personal vehicle and “playing” with it ie: breaking the bucket ramming things, making speed bumps and digging trenches in the road (unintentionally and to the detriment of the road condition)... oh well.

How does one eat a nice steak dinner with a mask on anyway's?

Blue Baby, happy belated Birthday. I wished someone on BYC a Happy Birthday and said the card was in mail and was chided for doing so. They don't want to celebrate birthdays! Who knew?

Once bit, twice shy!

I'm an old toot and I enjoy birthday cards.

I did get a nice birthday card with a gift in it from my DH, and 3 of those 50-pound bag's of chicken feed from my next door neighbor. I like getting card's still, as it show's that the person cared enough to even remember the occasion.
