Kristen’s Chickens and Farming Ventures

Hi @BlueBaby ! Yes we have the first floor framed and I have a “to do” list before FIL’s friends return. It has been stinking hot here. 😂 hot well for my pale west coast constitution at least... nothing like what you get! I’ve been wrapped up in the day to days. Hay is finally all in, and the meat birds just went in last Tuesday. My littles arrived Friday. Sales are doing well, and DH is in today to pick up more pork. I held back 4 nice girls, from the meat birds, put them in with Roostie, and he promptly scalped one  they aren’t fast enough to avoid him and didn’t understand his intentions. I may put them in with a lighter Rooster eventually.

FIL became unresponsive last night in the hospital so DH will also be stopping there today. I have been supporting my friend through a nasty divorce/custody issues. Work wise we have been double booked most days now, with me focused on the livestock and DH doing most everything else. Today should be his day off but he’s doing errands then making sausage tonight. I think he is going to beg off his second job tomorrow at the pub and just cut meat in the morning. We will see how he feels, but it has been weeks of non-stop tasks and work.

I took house pics but they are on my iPad so DH could take them in for his father to see in hospital last week.

Sound's like you have had your hand's full up there. Yes, it is hot down here. The monsoon has started, but it seems that everyone except for me has gotten a bit of rain. We did get a couple of day's where the wind blew some cooler air and dropped the temp. into just below 100-F.

I have also been animal sitting for my next door neighbor's for 2 week's now, with this being my last week of doing it. I don't mind doing the chicken's and the dog's, but I don't like spending time around those 2 goats, as both are males and have that strong musky smell.

Lol! Just two? That’s not so bad... most of the herds i get around the trailer are Billies. 12-25 at a time... you can smell them long before you see them :sick And then there’s the walking up to the crashing of horns... yep I’ll take chickens, cats, dogs, and cattle over sheep or Goats any day!

The guys that Framed the first floor, FIL’s older friend/hunter, two crew (who didn’t actually help with much construction) and one Pro Framer/General contractor took out 7 Billies. One was close to 200lbs! The “crew” mostly processed the goats all weekend and the one Framer and I did the bulk of the work. I hauled lumber and passed tools for the most part, and helped lift the walls into place. Three more days of solid work they said and we will be ready for the roof! Now I just need to not screw up the floor joists as subfloor for the second story before the come back.

The forecast has us at 27c or 80f but that is not correct for my actual location, we are on the south side of the island Often described as the desert side. It’s actually closer to 32c or 90’s f. I’m not even using a heat plate for the chicks and they are outside in a meat tractor at a day old (I did surround the tractor with Hay bales though)

Kris, it's so good to hear from you. FIL is in our prayers and hugs for Andrew :hugs :hugs You sound like you could use some too. :hugs:hugs

So glad to hear of the progress on the house. That's wonderful news. I understand how busy you guys are so I won't pester... But love to see updates whenever you can. Sue's doing great and on the road to recovery. And I won't share my temps with you, but Sue can't go outside right now as it's too hot for her. Heat brings on the headaches. Oh and she's training to use a cane instead of the walker.
