Finally someone as excited as I was about the snakes I saw/rescued while picking up the CX, and over the age of 4, no less!
Every Aussie worth their salt should have @ least one good snake story!:lau
Best news in a while. I have rescued back my cats! They are moved up with Andrew and I and are adapting to trailer life
:love That is good news. I would be lost without my boys.

I think a lot of people don't really know much about nutrition & then battle tastes & textures they're not used to. My YD will eat lentils & tofu [can't really stand either :( ] but won't touch mushrooms or chickpeas which I love. To do it properly you have to be way more intentional & thoughtful about your food. I'm lazy about food but not worth being slack because it takes so much more effort to get everything back on track.
You also need to know what makes complete protein and how to make things taste good so you want to eat them. I make Indian curries and Mexican flavored dishes as well. I also make my own bread and butter. I’m retired so I have some free time. LOL!

The internet makes it sooo easy to find tasty & well balanced vegetarian meals.

Lol! Yes the sheep are way more toleratable out on pasture, where I can’t see/smell/hear them! Our shearer (an Aussie) is awesome. We were talking livestock over lunch and I was sharing the new calf pics from my phone. The chicken is sadly still not standing, outherwise fine. She’s very large. We will process her ourselves this afternoon or tomorrow morning, as well as the featherless wonder... still naked at 8 weeks old :( when separating the two groups I found that there’s been some pecking on her near her tail... some fairly solid cuts. It must be a genetic thing that she’s not growing feathers... she’s got little stubs about 1/4”

The CX are doing well, getting harassed some by all ther red housemates, but no one is getting badly pecked. They still honk rather than make chicken noises  I’m 100% certain the owl was just helping herself to the mice that have discovered this wonderful new food source from my messy chickens. But my poor chickens didn’t realize that! :lau Best news in a while. I have rescued back my cats! They are moved up with Andrew and I and are adapting to trailer life... now I’ve got to get the window screens/screen door cat proofed, but waking up with my fur children back again... was just a wonderful feeling!

I just got back from a week away from home and slept so great last night with my furry friends next to me in bed. I understand what you are saying. I'm glad they are back in your life!
:thumbsup

:goodpost: Yes! 100%... especially with proteins and iron bio availability. In the decade I worked at Whole Foods I encountered a few vegetarians and vegans that were healthy. Some were customers and some coworkers. Most unfortunately were not. We had a few vegans collapse/faint for no apparent reason right on the sales floor. It doesn’t matter how many iron rich vegetables you consume if you’re not also making sure you have the correct fatty acids to digest it properly.

Such an amazing resource. Any balanced and healthy diet requires some thought. Inspiration and making it also appealing to the palate? Priceless! I love a good vegetarian curry, pasta sauce, or one of my favorites... mushroom stuffed acorn squash!

There's just a huge variety of things: patties of all sorts, including nut [my favourite]; quiche can be made from anything; rice, pasta, pastry...soup. My favourites include an African peanut butter soup & a wild rice & sweet potato salad ~ & they will fill you right up as well as being super healthy. I like a mild curry but curries aren't the only sauces available these days. I hate cooking but if I can manage this it's seriously not that hard.

It’s not... it’s just that there are a lot of people who don’t manage it well. I dated (and moved in with) a vegetarian for three years. He actually ate veggies, and when I was at a loss for having him over for dinner at first “what do I do? Fake meats? How do you make a meal without protein?!?” He was ok with eating the crummy pretend meat, then showed me how much better actual vegetarian meals could be. I’m not saying anything against vegetarians or vegans.

I’ve also known many unhealthy vegetarians. And having a cashier literally “drop” mid transaction (three times, two different individuals) is very enlightening. I also watched a several customers literally waste away until they appeared worse than many anorexics. Over a decade I watched a couple go from thin but healthy looking to almost at deaths door; not everyone is dedicated or informed enough to maintain a healthy vegetarian lifestyle.

We are in agreement. :) My only point is if I, who am so little interested in food & cooking, can manage it, then anyone with a modicum of interest & skill can. I've known a few nut jobs & I'm on my daughter's case because she has let her iron levels get dangerously low. If nothing else use a vitamin supplement! I do get my child's problem which is more to do with lifestyle than food choices but her work hours just mean she has to be a little more vigilant. She's asked for our eggs...:lau

I’ve seen this... it takes a concentrated effort to maintain a healthy vegetarian diet... this is why I have huge respect for those who can. Animal proteins are easy, they come with everything needed, nutritionally, to properly utilize the minerals we need. It’s (vegetarian diet) very do-able, but you need to balance it properly.

The bad instances I’ve witnessed are examples of where it has gone wrong... I’ve also seen people that were very healthy and flourished with a vegetarian diet. And (once over my initial shock and confusion) I followed an a mostly vegetarian diet myself for three years without significant negative health issues, granted that was with the guidance of the person that so valiantly persevered through my “what do you feed a vegetarian?!?” Tribulations.
