Kristen’s Chickens and Farming Ventures

Pics
Morning! Well, today I slept in until 7:30, the chickens are not pleased with me, the cats are grumpy... but boy did I need it! We were up and baking off buns for the market at 6 am yesterday and basically didn’t stop doing “work” until 8 pm.

The market was pretty slow with just $180 in sales, but next week should be much busier with a multi-island tour event going on. I now have some standing orders for eggs, so yay! I also had a frequent farm egg customer convert, as my eggs are pretty, and the whites have a firmer texture in the blue ones that is really nice for frying!

We picked up some chicken crates in preparation for Thursday, came back to the farm and I dropped Andrew off to start swathing the fields, unloaded the truck and organized the freezers, drove up to the trailer, unloaded the truck and did afternoon chicken chores, then brought him down a cool pop and some shorts. By 6 pm we were bringing in bales again, 140 last night. Andrew was still tedding tonight’s chore... “The Big Field”. Today he has about 6 hours of driving the tractor around it in circles ahead of him. The Tractor has been “repaired” by replacing one of the arms of the 3 point hitch with chain until we can get a replacement, hopefully Monday. It’s sufficient for the low speed Tedder/swather but was cant run the Mower off of it until the arm is replaced.

Last night I only had 2 Trash Pandas visit, they were hanging out by the “not keepers” meat tractor, so I took a nice big bowl of dry cat food out 50’ into the woods for them... sure, “technically” I might have crossed over the property line into Parks, but it’s not exactly marked and fairly hard to judge distances at night! I really need to get a dog or two for this project if I plan on continuing to run the chickens so close to the trees. 3 more nights to go until they get crated, I’m hoping I can hold the coons off until then.

And....... the tractor broke again! :lau So it looks like we might not have to do the entire field at once. :D I like to work slow and steady, rather than hysterically rushing around. So here’s a couple pictures from this morning when Andrew started to work on the field.

Looks totally ok! Right? Super safe looking... :gig

So, I’m going to head back to the trailer and bathe some chickens and drain Puffy’s water belly...

I got hot and sore just looking at that field! I think I'm having flashbacks.
