Well put. I'm pleased to say that folks who sell eggs who are members of APPPA don't debeak and make sure the birds have fresh grass every day. Most will run their layers 3 days behind their cattle for pasture maintenance. The layers will spread out the cow manure and remove all the fly larva. They have plenty of room and need those beaks to do their jobs.

I know what I think about debeaking ~ but it would probably get me banned.

I have a feeling I don’t even need to check this link to know what it contains...:(

Preaching to the choir! I also have extremely strong opinions on this. The Farm owner already purchased the birds, Andrew and I just picked them up. Now they live with me. I firmly believe that these beaks, and other nutritional decisions is what led to the “egg eating” problems, and the feather issues I’m correcting. These birds are now 1 1/2 years old, and their top beaks are starting to recover. I’m very carefully trimming back their lower mandibles so they can eat better. Correcting the wrong that was done to them when they were little Chickies.

@rjohns39 thats basically what I’m working on building for our farm! Slow progress in changing established patterns, but I’m getting there. I would never de-beak, given a choice I wouldn’t even buy a de-beaked bird. These will be the last ones to ever come to our farm, unless I somehow end up with more “rescues”.
