That's a lovely looking rooster you have there.
I like the chicken tractor idea a lot more then I do coops and runs.
We get a bit of a breeze here from time to time. It uproots and throws a few trees around, hangs about for a couple of days while the chickens cling to the branches in the bushes and buggers off usually overnight leaving us to clean up the devastation.
Chicken keeping is not easy if you care about them.

Ok, so I’ve noticed that my posts tend to ramble quite a bit from where they begin. What starts out as a focused query or comment on a specific topic or situation quickly seems to digress into random updates, an entirely different topic or such forth. Sure, a few threads have managed to stay on topic, but that seems to be the exception for me, not the rule!

So I figure here’s as good a place as any to summarize where I’m at, what I’m doing with my flock, and all the chicken ventures and adventures I seem to be embarking on. I plan on sharing photos of my Chickens, their tractors and coops (once I can get to building one... again, long story there). You can also probably expect to see some cows, some general pictures of our Farm, and I’ll probably whine a bit about building our house as well ( I will expect anyone still around when I’m finally done building it to join me in a toast with their preferred beverage!)

Please bear with me for a brief catch up to what’s brought me to this point and some slightly dated photos of my Flock up til now... then I can get going with some real-time updates.

Here is my current problem child “Chickie Hawk” originally named ‘chickie chickie’ by a friends little girl (4). Reason I’m holding him (he’s actually quite well restrained and not in striking distance of my face) is because it’s the only way to get the hay out without him attacking us.

Us too. We lived in a 25' caravan when we first moved to the island with 3 kids & one blow picked that up & moved it several feet. I considered evacuating everyone to the farmhouse down the road but it is an old Queenslander on stumps & the wind was lifting it up & down on the stumps!

Thanks! I’m almost caught up to present day the Tractors have advantages and disadvantages to be sure. I’m planning on trying several different systems out to see what works best for us. I figure that they will make good isolation pens for different breeding groups in the future as well! Design #3 will have a rollback tarp system for high winds and the 1” hardware cloth on the roof... or maybe aviary netting, though I don’t have that on hand so it will likely start with the HC.

Us too. We lived in a 25' caravan when we first moved to the island with 3 kids & one blow picked that up & moved it several feet. I considered evacuating everyone to the farmhouse down the road but it is an old Queenslander on stumps & the wind was lifting it up & down on the stumps!

Oh my! Terrifying... thankfully our RV hasn’t moved, but the wind buffets it and it rocks pretty hard. Even worse than when the bull decides that the tow pin is a good scritching tool.

I've seen a few of your threads and have replied to a couple. Having your updates in one place is definitely going to be easier to keep up with.

Have you set the date on when you're processing the extra cockerels?

In town today, we are picking up the kitchen island I ordered for the trailer (no more wobbly kitchen cart counter thing for me, yay!) and going knife shopping with DH... so their days are very, very numbered... my Sapphire cockerels are acting up now too, to the point that I’ve decided some tiny dinner is better than the way some of them are acting. One bit me 4 times last night when I went out to put them up and several others went after my legs! They were all in their roost box, it wasn’t quite as dark as usual, so they rushed out and assulted me as a pack!

Which leads neatly to my next challenge... too many boys!
