Kristen’s Chickens and Farming Ventures

And I’m going to do a sort of time lapse photo record of what 25 chicks can do to a wild rose bush over the course of a few days. It was a bit taller than the tractor, so I’m not sure if they will be able to denude the tops of the bush as well as they usually destroy the shorter ones, but I figured the bush is in the way... so why not?

I am very excited to see this. Please dont forget to do it. :pop

Not chickens, or the owl this time. But someone has been keeping me awake all night. It’s my own fault. I know he just can’t resist the thrill of the hunt... here is Charlie with one of his favorite prey items. A bean! He also loves to eat antything green...

We have a green bean infestation at our house. Could I borrow him so that he could clean them out for me? :gig:lau

I love cats! Anything can be a toy.

So... cat shaming on the internet works! This morning I awoke to a small rodent corpse that was not of my doing, or the chickens! I am so proud of my kitties... they finally caught a mouse on the farm! I still caught more than they did, but it’s a start.

Market went well today, despite the rain. Mental note: if you’re planning on doing iced tea, check the weather report before hand... I made about 12L too much! Lol, live and learn, I suppose! Yesterday was hot and dryish, today was cool and rainy.

I haven’t forgotten the rose destruction post, still gathering pictures as the little bush I’m photographing was taller than the tractor and chickens I decided to help them a little by stepping on it to put the top within reach. All our previous thorny victims have been significantly shorter in the 1’ to 1 1/2’ range, but this one is closer to 3’ tall. We are now on day three, but it was dark and in the back corner... if it doesn’t turn out I’ve got another victim lined up and I’ll trim it to fit in the tractor better beforehand...

Mine are taking out a strangler fig. They've decimated all the ground level leaves & are now jumping for the ones higher up ~ all except the Campines. They're prepare to climb. I'm not sure it will survive them.
