Kristen’s Chickens and Farming Ventures

Good Morning Bob! :frow

Today is a town day, so I’m going to have a grumpy Sammy and girls when I get home this evening. We are picking up feed and doing some banking. When we got up a little before 5am (still well after you ;)) it was still pitch black out. The doors to the runs are all open, so when the chickens wake up, probably a little closer to 8, they can come straight out for breakfast. Interestingly, the meat birds didn’t care about the dark, they were at their feeder and happily munching away even after I left with the headlamp, “I can still hear you snacking in there, if you eat everything that’s all for the day!” :p

Those meat birds sure are dedicated to their own demise......

lol We are the other way round. I thought Luna was never going to decide to go & roost last night. She wasn't @ all keen on heading up the stairs to bed.

My “young ladies”, the 17 week olds, are always the last in to roost. It’snot that the other hens aren’t letting them in, or that they don’t know where they should go or what to do at night, now it’s a how late can we stay out and party kind of attitude, getting every last bit of daylight/dusk they can in.

Chickie Hawk will have none of this behavior from his girls... he is always the first to get his ladies in for the night, but they are also 1.5 year old hens that have decided that the warm comfy box is a great place to sleep. They are also my earliest risers.

And THIS is why we are on diets!!!
