@Kris5902 Couldn't you use one of those wire brushes to help you clean that out? I used to raise rabbit's, and made the hardware cloth cages. The wire brush made it easier to clean the bottom of those out.

The matting was absolutely amazing... it was chicken feathers and moss all glued together with cement like poop completely encasing the wire floor. The way it was clinging to the wire was something else. I briefly considered the wire brush for cleaning the BBQ, but was worried about tearing the hardware cloth up. It’s 1” mesh and not the most solid. It was an all day project. But not that bad all things considered. Now I know I Need a solid bottom board for molting and winter, because I never want to have to do that again!

Thanks, but if that’s the whole of my problems I’m fairly well off all things considered. I just don’t like sick chickens, or nasty poops. If it wasn’t for the smell I would say we should all consider chicken poop as a valid cement alternative!

And that’s a happy thought indeed! I’m going into lockdown Friday for a Monday hatch, then again the next Friday as well. And I have another dozen Sapphire Marans to set very soon... Ooops! Hatching seems to be more contagious than anything else going around right now.

And you too! What do you have due this time? My next two batches are all Chickie Hawk’s, so the last batch of Sapphire Marans is more insurance for filling the orders I’ve taken for chicks. I’m getting great hatch rates from them and they are super cute chicks. The black ones are sexlinked with the boys having a white dot on the head and developing barring, the yellow chicks are indistinguishable though until about 4 weeks old. The boys look like Dean from a few posts back, and the cute little crests are about a 50/50 chance in the girls.

Granted, I would happily test that one out on me... how bad can the skin reaction to the cattle pour on be? I should totally ask for advice here on the human dosage! Just like those prepping sites that recommend stocking up of fishmox? I have been seriously (actually, all joking aside) considering the ivermectin, as the lice are back yet again. This is round 3 in 2020 with the kiddo, and my head is just crawling. Sure, DH doesn’t see anything, and it’s probably psychosomatic from my experiences with them as a child. But my hair is halfway down my back (not at its longest) there’s quite a bit of it. I’ve also been eyeing the beard trimmer in the bathroom and considering a quarantine haircut shave! Not as Nobel a cause as shaving it to raise money for cancer research, and they don’t take hair donations for wigs anymore (though I’m beginning to wonder if that’s a local lice related thing too!).

I highly recommend getting a "Robicomb" Kris. It is battery powered and has a mild electric current going through the teeth. When a louse is caught between the teeth ZAP!. Goodbye louse. Very effective and very satisfying .
Edit: comb through dry hair so you don't need access to a shower either.

Kris, you don't need the *proper* stuff. I used to work in a school & lice was a constant problem & with hair down to my bum ...well, it could get super expensive. All you need is some cheap conditioner. Rub it well into your hair & let it dry. It suffocates the lice & makes combing the eggs out super easy. Wash out. I found it works better than the *treatments*, is way cheaper & much easier on the hair.

My kids have thick but fine stranded red hair and sensitive scalps. When they were at school and their hair was past their shoulders we did the smother the dry hair in conditioner thing. Then combed it through with a regular comb followed by combing with a nit comb. It worked quite well and their hair was so soft and smooth afterwards.

Then I discovered the Robicomb which was a lot more fun! ( and we didn't need to buy any special hair treatments or extra conditioner anymore)

From Roger's girl's again. This time I added a couple of the Barnevelder pullet egg's in there too, to see what happen's. I usually wait until egg's are bigger before I put them in there, so we'll see. Most of these will hatch out as the NN's, but there might be a couple that will have the fully feathered neck's.
