How do you tell if chickens are healthy beyond their outward appearance?

I have seen some references to innoculations for chickens...are these necessary? How many and how often.

I think I found a place for cheap appropriate wood for the coop so I'm going to start on the structure as I continue to research and look for hens for sale.

STOLEN: My son's friend once again had his chickens stolen. Please keep on the lookout if you attend auctions or flea markets, may even appear on Craigs list or other for sale ads...We don't think they were stolen for food(can't get much meat from bantams). Definitly stolen though as the guard dog next door broke loose to protect property. The thieves killed one and set it up to look like the dog got them. This dog never bothers to mess with the chickens when they hang out around him and he never gets worked up over strays. PM me if any of these are found or if bought I will buy them back from you to return to the boy.
2 Cochin bantams one male partridge cockerel and one male black cockerel
1 buff Silkie male cockerel Pet quality
1 Partidge Silkie female pullet Pet quality
1 blue Silkie Male cockerel Pet quality
1 black silkie hen pet quality
1 Partridge looking large fowl mix pullet...Looks like orpington body with droopy comb
1 Partridge OEGB rooster
1 Mille Fleur pullet
1 black Leghorn Bantam hen Show quality

Who would steal chickens?? That is not right. I have several silkie roos that I would be willing to give him if that would help. He is white and just pet quality nothing special. If he was interested in the trio of bantam cochins I have I would sell him those cheap. Just let me know. I guess he is in Somerset?

That really stinks. Unfortunately they probably thought that the bantams were fighting birds and stole them to set up a cock fight or worse yet to train pit bulls for fighting.

I will keep an eye out on the Kijiji, Freecycle, and Craigslist here in Louisville to see if anybody posts an ad.

I hope they catch the thieves, to bad the guard dog didn't take a couple of chunks out of them.

You know that might be a good idea...About the Cochin trio...Forgot about those. He would really like that...Are they tame enough for him to hold? If not it's okay that boy holds his chickens a lot. Can't help but be tamed. Wish I would've thought about those when his grandma called and asked if I would sell her a pair of chickens. He didn't even give her time for me to get him a pair together and made her go to Eubank to buy a bunch of bantams from a guy named Tim...Thats all I know about the guy other than I gave him all my BR and RIR packing peanuts back in April. And that he lives close to RR tracks. He does have healthy birds though.

No they are not very tame. I walk into the pen with them but I dont attempt to hold all of them. They stay with my silkies so I spend time in there with my babies.
