Langshan Thread!!!

Pics
My Langshens are 9 months old and have not started laying. Does anybody have any idea when they start? Thank you

One of my pullets started laying (same breeder, different line) and the eggs are beautiful. They are really dark. My older trio lays lighter eggs.

So sorry! I had not received any subscription notifications for this thread and just assumed it had fallen to the wayside. The new site is so laggy on my computer and phone I hate using it anymore.

I will try to PM you as well to see if you are still on here!
Oh, Ok...no problems.
I was looking on this site to purchase Lanshans. This is the Link I was referring to it was from a post by rodriguez poultry.
"Breeder of: Show Quality Black Langshans.

I really don't know how to use this site. It seems like the groups are pretty well established... so I will give up at this point. Have a great one everyone!

So very, very sorry for my absence. Apparently my Tapatalk does not notify me when a subscription has been responded to...and the emails from BYC are not working.

So very sorry! If anyone feels neglected, please, feel welcomed! We're glad you're here and even happier that you've chosen the Langshan!

LadyElaine, mine usually start up around 10 months old. I try not to force them as I want the bone structure first and foremost. Once they start laying, the growth goes way down. If you're wanting them to start though, you can put artificial lighting in the coop at night to increase the photoperiod.

thorleif, welcome to the thread and thank you for showing us pics of your lovely whites! How long have you had them?

shanghai1893, congrats on your new additions! White Langshans from breeders are very hard to come by. Most do look like hatchery birds. I know I'm still not happy with the type that mine are and for the life of me can't get them as white as I want them. Probably from being in the breeding pens though. Find a good black male and he will give all black chicks. Breed those chicks back to whites or to each other and you'll get whites and blacks. That's how I had to go with my own birds. The white male was not what I wanted in a bird at all, so I used a nice blue male to breed some better typed. Plus, then you'll get to enjoy the different colors all in your backyard! Again, welcome to the thread!

As a separate thing:
I have several black Langshan (split to white) pullets that I need to part with. They are approximately 11 weeks old. I'm asking $5 each as I do need to move them fairly fast. If you take several, I will make a deal on them. I'm in central PA and am willing to meet within a reasonable distance.

Has anyone purchased Langshans from Skyline poultry? I may be able to start breeding Langshans

and I am looking for black/blue/splash eggs or chicks.

I have not purchased from them but I have Black Langshan and I sell eggs. PM if interested. I have 2 orders/swaps to fill first though.

Hi, I have had them a few years now, I will never swap the big white ones for anything. I also used to breed both black and white bantams, but when I met a young man who was really dedicated, I sold them all to him. I dont show mine, I just enjoy breeding and perfecting them. I may take one to the local show, just to support them. I do my best to spread the breed, to secure their future, and the three you can see on this picture are all in Denmark, with a young lady that probably will breed, and help spreading them. She is hatching another 10 whites this week. Note the little hen in front, no foot-feathers. I have never seen that before, and I cannot quite work out where she gets that gene from, as she comes from my "flock breeding", not any outside blood there, but, she is hopefully a total one-off?

Haha! Welcome to my problem! My birds were all line bred as well. Started getting some excellent typed birds, but not a leg-feather on them one! I kept them and am hoping to develop a different type of Langshan from them. Who knows?

I lost all 3 of my white chicks that I hatched out and grew out. Made it to 12 weeks then dropped dead. The ONLY thing I can think of is cocci. There's no sneezing, no coughing, just look pale one day and they're dead the next. No mites, lice on ANY birds in the barn.

Ever had one of those "WTH" days? Yeah...lost all of them in a week.

thorleirf, please more pics of your whites! I would love to compare to the US whites!
