Langshan Thread!!!

At some point I'd like to order some from Dick Horstman! As of right now...no bantams at all...very soon though!

I much prefer the LF birds over the bantams but I have always wanted some white bantams so i went ahead and got some from Mr Horstman. I have never seen his langshans but all his other breeds are really good so i would think the langshans would be good as well. I think he said they were from the superior farms sellout. He is very nice to deal with and i highly recommend him to anyone looking for birds/eggs. Hopefully out of the 8 chicks i will end up with a nice trio or quad good enough to use for breeding next year.

I raised Bantam White Langshan for many years in the past. The ones I had were awesome! They were great in type and laid well, great fertility. In all my years of raising chickens they really were one of the best chickens Ive ever had. Maybe someday I will raise them again.

I know! I said to my friend i wish i had my camera! He had some pairs for sale and some hatching eggs. I bought a bantam barred rock from him and a really nice Patridge Cochin for my friend for his B-day. I was AMAZED at the large fowl blacks. I literally have NEVER seen more beautiful and impressive roosters. I bet there were about 10- 15 being shown and then it appeared about 3 more in the youth division. There were some pairs for sale as well. I really need to get a seperate area going and start on these birds. I was almost star struck! The tails! WOW . I thought my friends large fowl Cochins wer ebig - there birds would tower over them. Also helped as i went back after they were judged and studied the placements and read their score cards to get a better idea of what was what. Needless to say i am in love LOL

Do Langshan's lay a large sized egg? Do they lay throughout the winter? Seems like they would do well in the deep south since they aren't as feathered as cochins. I really like the way they look too.

Just checked out Sandhill's website and they have Blue Langshans! I bet they would make a good project. If you already had some nice blacks. Really giving me something to think about!
