Laree's "I CAN'T STOP MYSELF FROM HATCHING!!!" Hatch-a-long

I have some that are a few days apart. My older batch is due to hatch tomorrow. Took out egg turner and separated them into groups in the bator. I simply don't turn the ones that are due to hatch and turn the ones that still have a couple days. Don't worry about opening the bator. Just don't dilly dally and watch temp once you put top back on to make sure it gets back up to the right humidity and temp. My bator has two viewing windows that pop out so I just use those to turn the eggs. That way I am not removing the whole lid. Remember, in nature, the hen does get up to turn the eggs and does get up to eat/drink from time to time.

Yeah or get the basics to make your own hatcher, a box, heat element, thermostat, thermometer, hygrometer and off you go. I can get incubator kits here, you buy the lot for 50 euros and make your own incubator/hatcher, if I could have been bothered before buying my two, I would have saved about 400 euros. Silly, lazy ol' me.

yeah exactly.

Besides, my hubby might flip out if I tried to bring another bator into the house

He's rather irritated with my new "hobby" as it is right now.. The one I have has an auto-turner but not a fan and it works fine. I like the idea of the windows. I am not sure if mine pop out or not but that's a great idea! I'll have to try that

I just bought an LG still air on craigslist to use as a hatcher. Hope it works!

If it doeasn't I'm not out too much money.

Yep!!! I would have lots of them (trees)

We made our own incubator from a wine cooler - total cost was only $70 (wine cooler with working fans, digital temp display, and wooden slat shelves $20, two light kits for heat $20, dual plug thermostat $30) and I can fit a LOT of eggs in it. The Hovabator is now the hatcher! It was a Danby wine cooler, and they are notorious for not keeping cold. So you might find one easily in your area too. They are like $1400 new - crazy!

Well, this particular hatch appears to be over. BUT I ended up with 5 buff Fav babies, and 2 Seramas!!!!!!!!!!!!
