Laree's "I CAN'T STOP MYSELF FROM HATCHING!!!" Hatch-a-long

When I left to head for the mountains yesterday at 3PM, there wasn't even a pip under the broody.

When I got home today at 4PM, 5 of the 6 remaining eggs had hatched.

All gorgeous little Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas out of pretty blue eggs.... I hope the last one hatches, she is still setting on it.

It's 94 degrees out there so the chicks are not under mama.

I had 4 Serama on my kitchen floor last month wrapped in towels after their bath. They got to spend the night in my bathroom drying off in front of my space heater

My blue OEGB, Nugget, currently has 6 chicks and her other 5 eggs are all pipped. Her neighbor, a no-name black OEGB, hatched 1 chick but only had one other egg that was no good. So she adopted 5 or 6 chicks that hatched today and yesterday (maybe the day before??) in the incubator. My splash cochin bantam, Esmeralda, has 2 little chicklets with 5 more eggs to go. Then I had another EE, guinea, and duck hatch; 1 of the 2 goose eggs is externally pipped, and so far there are 6 or 7 BCM out of 14 eggs. They were due tomorrow so they're a little early. No new broodies today, but both the pigeon pairs quit their nests.

But I still have the 21 chickens, 4 ducks, 1 goose, and 2 doves on eggs or chicks

Technically I guess I've got 23 on eggs or chicks since I have 2 other hens (both games) who have chicks that are 2-3 weeks old

My husband walked in while I was blow drying "Milly" and when I turned to look at him he asked, "Are you ok?" The funny thing was that Milly seemed to like it. She stood there preening while I blew her dry. It was a team effort.

Broodyville has hit here too I now have 3 Marans hens sitting on eggs so I don't know the rooster gives me the look when I go and look at them and they all are giving me the broody stare and they don't come off when I put the feed out..I had one and I've been taking out the fresh eggs but they are sharing duties in a big plastic barrel 3 hens in a row so maybe I can get the other hens to lay in another barrel...or I'll have to move them over into a pen I have ready for another rooster and his hens for saving the eggs. I have a New Hampshire setting in a roll out nest shhh don't tell her that there are no eggs under her was thinking about giving her some that hatch out this next week how do you all make room for the broodies? I have one in with the Silkies raising her 4 chicks and I'm very proud of her she's been doing a great job but I don't have enough empty pens...but I'm liking them raising the chicks any suggestions are appreciated

I Am sincerely hoping that the broody fever epidemic does not strike here (I knew the world was not going to end yesterday, what kind of god would set that many eggs under broodies then destroy them?)

Not having so much luck with this batch of eggs, started with 47 (all shipped), locked down 17, and so far only 7 out, with no new pips since last night. Sigh.

My little wry neck isn't doing so hot today. She and/or he scoots around backwards instead of walking then scoots too far away from the light and gets stuck in the shavings and can't get back. I've got to put down some more paper towels today to expand her area so she can hopefully get back to the light.

Also yesterday she was trying sometimes to hold her head up... was doing good for some time. Now today it's mostly head down, and I forced the head up a bit and it stayed that way for about a minute before it went back.

I'm wondering if I should put another chick from the hatch in with her? You know, to show her how to eat and drink? Or would that be a bad idea cause it will pick on her?
