Laree's "I CAN'T STOP MYSELF FROM HATCHING!!!" Hatch-a-long

I don't know how I can continue to have luck like this.

Today I came home and my cuckoo marans had finished her hatch. She was the one that had a chick dead yesterday that hatched bloody. Today the same thing happened and I found a cold dead chick and an empty very bloody shell next to it. She did manage to hatch out for real the 3rd and final egg that was under her with the cutest turken baby ever that has the fluffiest cheeks I have ever seen, kinda makes it look like it has burnsides...

And my barred rock is starting to hatch today, too. She's got 3 eggs under her, fortunately 2 are out (and one's a turken!) so far.

I'm in lockdown in incubator #1, and waiting for a few more days to see my WM Ameraucanas.

I can't stand the suspense. Incubator #2 is on day 8, 9 out of 12 Lav Ameraucana are going strong, three weren't fertile. Good Lord only knows about the maran eggs, I candled them and can't see a thing! I hope none of them explode on me before hatch day!

Lots of cute chicks out there everyone! Loving the pics!

From the eggs I got from my failed easter hatch consolation prize, from Hurley, Wolftracks and Crystal Creek, Wolftracks egg was the first to hatch! They are due tomorrow, but another one is tapping from Wolftracks eggs. Still none that were twitching and peeping on day 15 are doing anything. The first one out is the single loudest chick I've ever heard. Thinking its a roo. Sooooooooooooo happy this one isn't a failed hatch!!!

looks like I have 10 out of the original 47, of which 17 went into lockdown. I used cut-down egg cartons this time , and had one chick that pipped on the small end - in the carton - that didn't make it. These were all shipped eggs, and had many detached air cells. Anyone have this happen before? Now I am not so sure about using the cartons, although they really protected the eggs well from the rugby scrum of hatched chicks.

I had a chick in my last hatch pip out on small end. When it didn't make any progress, I stepped in and hatched it. It had a little rough start but it is alive and well now. I just lay my eggs on the mesh. Once the chicks hatch and are mostly dry, I move them to the brooder. I don't leave them in there because they end up making all the other eggs roll all over the place. Sometimes I will take a small piece of felt about half the size of my incubator (I have a little giant) and put pipping eggs on that so they don't hatch out onto the hard mesh.
