Large Fowl Cochin Thread

Pics
I am new to Cochins, and I bought a chick from a local BYC'r on an impulse driven by pure unadulterated fluffy puffy cuteness! I posted these pics last week, and the consensus is that I have a male. We are going to try out best to keep him, as long as he and my other young roo (Golden Phoenix) can get along. The Phoenix is a little bit older, but is now smaller than the Cochin.

I know these are big heavy birds when they mature. Do they still want a roost? If so, how high should I put it? Do the roos usually get along with other roos? I have only read that they are calm and non aggressive, but this little guy seems to be provoking the Phoenix already. They got into it a bit yesterday. Not sure what to do....

You will be able to keep the Cochin roo for quite a while.....they are so slow to mature. I am thinking mine was 8 months old before he stepped up and wanted a hen for himself and the Buff Orpington said oh, no you don't.

Now the cochin has a coop and pen of his own. Chicken math at it's finest. He is sweet and slow moving and kind to his hens.

Hello!
I am new to this thread, and to LF Cochins, but I am IN LOVE with them. I posted in the WTB ad, but thought id drop a line here, in case anyone is looking to offload a few chicks/started pullets, hens. blue or splash! I am in NH, I have 3, that all look like roo's! young still, but I can tell this cochin love is not going to be a quick phase of mine! Id love to establish a really good flock, for my own enjoyment, and possibly for hatching. Any points in the right direction are greatly appreciated!!

Hi everybody! I've been on BYC for a while now and have read a lot, but don't post often. I'm also in love with Cochins! They are such fluffy puffies

I've had my flock for about a year now. I have 3 black and 1 blue hen with a blue roo. Even though I've heard you can have blues and blacks together, I would prefer to have a separate pen for black only, so I'm looking for a really nice black roo.

I'd love to see everyone's birds! I don't know about you, but here in Virginia it's raining, so not a good picture week.

My young(? 6 week) baby roo (formerly known as "Puffy") would now like to be referred to as "P-Diddy".....or so he says. I believe he's thinking to take on the Golden Phoenix. He has a Silver Laced Wyandotte pullet "Jacob" at his side for moral support.... Please don't ask why my pullet is named "Jacob".... it just is...

I'll have to post a pic of his "foe" ..... yes. beware, 3 month old Phoenix chicks are very intimidating!.... Unfortunately, you will all have to wait until Monday night, or at latest Tuesday... as we have our first OEGB show tomorrow....

So far he is the sweetest chick,so you never know. My 17 year old son is an enabler, and points out "you did want a rooster mom". I point out with 14 straight run, that was not going to be a problem. The question is going to be WHICH boy gets kept! Have no other Cochins, not sure I would want him for the rooster. Although, if he has the best disposition.......

I too, have succumbed to the allure of the fluffy pants chicken. Meet my 2 week old white and buff LF Cochins. No names yet. If any of my flock end up being a rooster, I hope it's not these "girls".

Three and a half week old babies that I hatched out of my Barred Cochin roo and my Black Cochin hen.

Now I have 11! The first hatch and then the one week old hatch.
