She molted BEFORE she ever laid?

I was told she would molt BEFORE she started to lay so when she started to loss some feathers on her legs and tail and then grew them back and grew more fluffy on her body and now longer tail feathers. I thought that was her molting and here is a quote from a wed site that says "The chick goes through one complete and three partial moults during its growth to point of lay. Generally, complete moulting occurs from 1-6 weeks of age, and partial moulting at 7-9 weeks, 12-16 weeks and 20-22 weeks. During this final moult, the stiff tail feathers grow."http://www.daff.qld.gov.au/animal-industries/poultry/care-and-husbandry/moulting

Clare,
I am still carrying on all the major life functions by the grace of God alone. I didn't hatch very many birds this year, I just needed a break! I may have an extra cockerel although they are very young. I have certainly enjoyed the pictures you have sent, you are doing well with the brahma bantams and the large black cochins. We fully intend on being at the show and I'll let you know closer to the time if I have a good cockerel for you, I'll try to pick you a good pullet producing fellow.

Blessings,

Bo

Bo, Will you be bringing any LF Mottled to the show? I would love to see some in person. Clare

I will probably bring a few hens, the young birds won't be ready. I'll try to bring a few of everything, blacks, blues, whites, mottleds, barred plymouth rocks and black bantam cochins.

Your buff Cochins are absolutely amazing! Do you ever sell hatching eggs or ship chicks? I would love some beautiful birds like yours but I can't find anyone near me that raises them. :(

Okay I have been on the cochin thread, but my kids are the big ones.

So I figured I would get some opinions from you fine people on my blue pair. They were from a bin at Big R this spring when we first started getting chickens. They are starting to molt also. They are 6 months old. So go easy on me lol!

This is Cash, my 16 wk old cockerel who crowed for the first time today...love the sound of his crow! One of the others who has also just found his voice sounds like a turkey. Cash's feet are a great yellow, his feathers glisten green, and his foot feathers are awesome. Please add your opinion and what else I should be paying attention to with him.

They remind me a little of Langshans black with same furry feet some with a white feather on their feet.

Good size and so on. I would love for someone to explain what the attraction is for Bantams versus LF chickens?

I'd instantly decided that I wanted LF to make the option of meat a possibility. I also chose LF because I wanted chickens that might have a fighting chance (if slim) against other birds of prey or other low level predators in general.

I see so many posts about all of the bantams and it just has me scratching my head as to what could possibly attract people to tiny chickens? They are keeping them for pets maybe and want cute looking ones?
