Bo, are you still working with the Birchen Cochin or Columbian Cochin?
Carl Jarvis was out the other day to help me select for the breeding pens for my F1 Birchen Wyandotte and my Silver Blue Splash Cochin x pens. He saw one of my Blue Cochin x Columbian Wyandottes cockerels. He suggested I send you some pictures of the bird. He shows some interesting coloration that could be helpful in a Birchen project or a Columbian project.
I am still working on the birchens and have kept a few cockerels and pullets this year for the first time in a long time.

Bo, one of the cockerels hatched from your Blue pen eggs has really gotten huge. He is the bigger one in the pictures posted last month. I'll get pictures today to post. He has really nice lacing on most of his feathers and I would like your opinion on how to label him. Definitely a gorgeous bird.
Also, I'm considering placing the two white Cochin hens from you with my Columbian Wyandotte rooster to begin a Columbian Cochin project. Is there anything in their white background I need to know...dominant or recessive white?
Jim Heinz, the three hens hatched from your eggs are laying consistently. The two blues will be penned with the laced blue from Bo's eggs mentioned above. The blue splash will be bred to the great looking black from Bo's eggs.
Those whites began from blacks in 2003. My original mating was a very nice black cock bird to a trio of white pullets which produced blacks, whites and brown reds. So genetically you may get columbians and you may get birchens depending. The birchens would be brassy but this could be eliminated in a few generations. I am no geneticist by any means so you could get some other results other than what I have mentioned.

Bo

Bo, here is the cockerel I mentioned earlier today. I 'm putting up several pictures of his feathering also. Is he considered a Blue Laced....? He is much darker than the two medium Blues.
Cushion: Every feather is the two tone

Saddle, chest and wing

Notice the color on the foot feathers. I really like his head.

Profile pose and wing tips

He is really dark blue with all the lighter gray.

And this is Cockerel row:

Well I cleared all my Lfs out except one pair. A black cockeral and a blue pullet. The pullet is very nice but on the small size, and the rooster is decent. Maybe I could get some eggs from you Bo.

Ok I have a question and I hope someone can give me the best answer possible.

I am almost afraid to ask, but how do you get the wheaten color in Cochins without adding from a different breed? Like could I breed a black and a buff or what? Is a lemon blue anything like a wheaten? I have been trying to find info on wheatens but still don't really understand it. I understand about dominant and recessive genes and I understand most colors but when I look up wheatens I get almost TOO MUCH info and it will take me weeks

to read about it. While I will eventually read it.. um ... most anyway

, what I want to know is if it is something I can get out of already existing colors, some cliff notes maybe.

Also (just as an example) if I crossed my blue wheaten Ameracauna with my blue Cochin rooster, what are the chances of getting a wheaten plain or blue? I ask because I still haven't figured out if breeding two wheatens will give you 100% wheaten or if it is more like the blue color giving B/B/S.

Can anyone help me out??
Rooster or Hen--------7 months old just keeps getting bigger and more and more white keeps coming in. Pictures are bad I know the wind today is horrid.

it's a cockerel you can see all the white sickle feathers hanging they are pointed not round , but I also have these and the pullets dont have any of that green on them.
