Large Fowl Cochin Thread

I probably should have mentioned that the chickens have a huge yard with grass and trees --- they free range all the time. Sooty has no problems outside the coop --- but INSIDE, look out! (At least, that's what I'm deducing from the evidence --- a lawyer would probably say it's circumstantial, LOL)

She probably doesn't like other chickens, which is always a bit weird

When she does actually go out does she hang out with the other chickens?

She's usually in the vicinity of the other Cochins or the Easter Eggers, but she doesn't hang out with anyone in particular. Actually, among the whole flock, I've only got a couple of "buddy" pairs.

Exactly like my EE kind of hangs out with anyone, used to act broody all the time, and squish other chickens eggs. She just didn't like other chickens. Maybe your cochin is the same

I'm relieved that she doesn't appear truly broody to someone else ---- I was afraid I was misreading the signals and that maybe I was accidentally discouraging her from being Super Mom.

I'm hoping to find someone that sells hatching eggs, preferably partridge color. wanting to buy in Spring. We got a partridge cochin in our cackle surprise box in Aug. and she was my 7yo son's favorite. unfortunately she died and now my son is devastated. I told him in the spring we can try to get more. He likes the partridge color but is willing to get any color available. If you sell hatching eggs, I'd love to get some.

Good luck trying to get hatching eggs.. Most people especially breeders won't sell eggs.

Thanks, I'm just hoping for 6 or so eggs. Our birds are just pets and for egg laying so they don't need to be show quality. Hopefully someone out there will let us buy some.
Check out Roslyn Pickens on facebook. She sells eggs but I don't think she has LF Partridge. But she does change what she is working on from time to time and she might know someone who does.
