Large Fowl Cochin Thread

My new cockerel for my line. He came from Zimmermans in OK or KS. He's 5 1/2 months old.

No Bo, he came from the GLC split x split breedings. He is pure Cochin. Just didn't get the pattern genes, only the columbian. I shouldn't even be feeding him, but I've enjoyed watching him grow out.

Yeah, I'm getting more tech savvy and was able to figure out how to do this, hopefully I'll be able to post some pictures of some LF blacks, blues, whites and of course mottleds and maybe even a brown red or two. I have to take the picutures first.

Jim and Patti live in Kansas. I didn't realize they had LF Black Cochins until last year when Patti asked me for a quad of birds at the Indy show. I delivered her birds to her in December at the Shawnee show where I further learned that she has some really nice LF Buff Orpingtons. The more people raising the big cochins the better. Clare, keep that Buff Columbian Cockerel he may be of use.

This guy is a cross of your line and a line from Minnesota or Wisconsin. I can't remember the name of the other breeder. Patti told me but I can't remember for the life of me.

Minnesota would be Rick Klehr or Roland Doerr possibly Andrea Sorensen and I have sold some LF blacks to a fellow in Germantown, WI. Would like to see the bird you bought with a little more roundness to his shape, he is a bit wedge shaped but then again he may not be in condition as most of my birds are still only half way through the molt if that far. I'll be showing a bunch of naked cochins at Shawnee in a couple of weeks.

It was Roland Doerr I believe. I think he will work pretty well with my line. I figure at 5 1/2 months old, he has a lot of maturing to do yet.

Bo, are you still working with the Birchen Cochin or Columbian Cochin?
Carl Jarvis was out the other day to help me select for the breeding pens for my F1 Birchen Wyandotte and my Silver Blue Splash Cochin x pens. He saw one of my Blue Cochin x Columbian Wyandottes cockerels. He suggested I send you some pictures of the bird. He shows some interesting coloration that could be helpful in a Birchen project or a Columbian project.

Bo, one of the cockerels hatched from your Blue pen eggs has really gotten huge. He is the bigger one in the pictures posted last month. I'll get pictures today to post. He has really nice lacing on most of his feathers and I would like your opinion on how to label him. Definitely a gorgeous bird.

Also, I'm considering placing the two white Cochin hens from you with my Columbian Wyandotte rooster to begin a Columbian Cochin project. Is there anything in their white background I need to know...dominant or recessive white?

Jim Heinz, the three hens hatched from your eggs are laying consistently. The two blues will be penned with the laced blue from Bo's eggs mentioned above. The blue splash will be bred to the great looking black from Bo's eggs.
