Larkwell Valley (2023)

That's crazy! My friend shows black muscovies and sells males for $30 full grown. Yeah they're males but still, $30 for a full grown scovy compared to $22 for a duckling.
My mentor also breeds scovies, though they are more pet quality. He sells ducklings sexed for $10 each.
Mine are just for pets and eggs, not really showing. I just like watching them. I wasn't sure if you could sex scovy ducklings, I've never seen them for sale sexed anywhere

If you practice, you can sex vent sex them. It took me a few batches of ducklings to get the hang of it. You have to be very careful not to injure them in the process. I'll upload a helpful diagram here in a minute.

Okay, thanks. I just wasn't sure if there was something about scovies in general that made them too difficult to sex. I'm sure that people would pay more to have sexed ones, so i was surprised Metzer didn't sex theirs.

Yeah, I might do some shopping around this year. Their blacks are just so pretty and I really want a color other than white or chocolate
I'm working on Lilacs, Silvers, and Buffs. Would LOVE to get my hands on some Lavenders and Bronzes, but can't find them in Canada. Also trying to get them as Self, ie without the white flight feathers. Getting rid of the Whitehead gene is proving difficult.

I have a couple of Lilac drakes this year, but the one I would want to keep is crippled. He was injured when his egg was stepped on just before hatching. I found the egg chilled and half open, but took a chance and placed it in the incubator. His disabilities didn't show until he really started growing. I think his spine was injured, he has a weird stance and a wry neck that couldn't be corrected.

I also want to get some Rippled scovies. Barred is well established here now, but it's another one that I can't find in Canada.

One of my chocolate hens is a white head. The other I'm not sure. She has white on her head, but it's not all just solid white like her sister. Makes them easy to tell apart at a glance though

I checked out Al's Quackery, any other scovy recommendations? The website says they only accept bank/money orders, which isn't really my preferred way to pay for things at all

She has a really good reputation. I honestly don't know anyone else. I mostly know her because I would look at her genetics page.

Okay. I might look into them more once hatching season is closer. Especially since they also have calls

Found someone about an hour away that had a website for cattle sales. They also had muscovy, but the last update was nearly 6 years ago, so I'm thinking they're not doing that anymore. Darn, that wouldnhave been pretty nice.

There's an APA ad that looked nice, I might message them at some point and see if they're still selling or will be next season

Had a pool mishap today. Black Swedish little ended up stuck on her back in it, for who knows how long. She's dry now, but breathing very heavily very quickly and I'm having a hard time getting her to stop shivering. Hoping she's just still getting back to normal, have no idea what happened.
