Lavender Orpington Thread

Pics
yeap, I sure do want a Lavender Orpington. They are just soo pretty. The problem I have is I am only allowed 6 chickens (city rules) and I just got 4 unknowns about 5 weeks ago. Most places will only sell several chicks at a time, and I understand why, so I am going to have to find someone here in Colorado that sells that type of chick. Still I am not giving up hope and some day I will have some Lavender Orpingtons.
Good Luck! It took me forever to find some Lavender Orpingtons that are not $45 to $55 each! And thats for chicks!!!! We were lucky when we found a breeder in Seattle who sells chicks for $7 each. And at the time our hen was broody!

I have a guy who sells Lav chicks for pretty cheap!! He also sells eggs which is nice!!
Can you hatch eggs? Then you could sell the extra chicks when they hatch! No one would know you had chicks, as long as you keep them in the house!

I wish i knew which one of my SLWs are laying..i got only 4 eggs today. But that means atleast 2 of them are now laying.
Look for the one with the reddest face, you also want to look if they are capable of laying the egg, I knew Lexi was going to start before any of the others started because she had the reddest face and her body was getting large, large enough to fit a egg! Plus Quincy was starting to mate with her

I think roosters know when the hen is about to start laying because, he had started mating with Lizzie but she had not started laying, not long after he started mating she laid her first egg!

The hens also start squatting when you go to pet them right before they start laying.
