TIL I CAN make a rolled cake without a major disaster!! Just take it out of the jelly roll pan as soon as it comes out of the oven, roll it in a clean towel sprinkled liberally with confectioner's sugar (rolling the towel right up with it) and letting it cool completely. Unroll, spread with filling and reroll (without the towel this time) and voila!

Monday I learned that that snow is scary to a young featherfoot. And that my d'Uccle pullet can fly 20' up a tree when frightened. And stay up there for long periods of time. And avoid being knocked out of the tree by a rake at least 3 out of 4 attempts. And I suspect the only reason the 4th attempt worked was because it was getting dark and she was ready to go home

I've seen them fly high before, but never into a tree and stay there. We were wandering around in the trees trying to find her. Brown bird with black & white spots in a forest covered with dead leaves and snow

Then we stopped and listened closely while I called her name. And she trilled from the tree. We have hawks & owls, so staying out was a no-no!
