Leghorns -19 weeks to first eggs

AllenK - I thought the birds were yours? LOL

When I asked what Crazy Lady thought about chickens, she said "yes". Then went on about a few things. I sat down and ordered mine from Ideal and delivered 2 days later. I ordered Monday night. They ship Wednesday. Arrived before work on Thursday. Her comment was "when did we decide to order chicks?" LOL.

Then I found out "my" project was "our" project. We have had a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I get all the chores. Lots of help with the chicks though.

Daughter and BF was here to collect 3 MORE eggs. Running total is 17 with 3 browns! It would appear only 1 RIR is laying. The other 9 brown egg layers are thinking about it. Home grown Scrambled eggs tomorrow!

Hear that @KikisGirls ? I'm having 3 homegrown eggs for breakfast and won't go hungry! 3 pullet eggs almost equal a store bought for size. I'm still thinking on quail. But that'll be years away. Did you decide on meat birds this spring? I did, but would like info on Ideals' CX. Do we have to ration food or not?
I'm really confused by this post.... can you shed some light on it for me?

Haha! I thought I was the only one who doesn't like eggs. Crazy Lady will eat them fried and plain. I pile on the onions, mushrooms, bell pepper and salsa. Yes, there is an egg in there somewhere. Put it on a hot buttered tortilla and smile!

I thought you were hatching something?
I like my eggs Mexicano style prepared by someone else then wrapped a flour tortilla that is freshly browned on the stove then wrapped in paper and foil then I get to take em home and pour on the Salsa Verde!

Mehicano Style down here means Pico de gailo, except I want it tripled so I get my veggies in too.

Sure.
1. Crazy Lady is the one who bore me 3 kids, hangs around and loves me dearly for all my wonderful qualities and points out areas that I need to improve upon <none IMHO>.
2. You said you are driving to Ideal to get birds.
3. I mail ordered my birds, as did Kiki, from Ideal.
4. We are considering ordering meat birds for the spring.
5. CX = Cornish crosses that will go from chicks to harvest in 8 weeks.
6. If you don't ration the feed for some strains of CX, it gets bad.

Did that work?

The great thing (?) about forums is that you can have a dozen different conversations with scores of people. At the same time. In the same place. Sitting in your living room.

If you notice that post above... where the Nutball 'quoted' me...that is one way to let someone know that you are responding directly to them.

It takes a few minutes to get the hang of this type of chatting forum but trust me...you will get the hang of it soon.

Quail - are quieter than chickens. I've been complaining about the noise. Told Crazy Lady and she wisely told me to stick to one species. Quail would require a whole new setup.

Quail require much smaller space...I have been looking into them too.
My Welsummers are the loudest ones of my bunch...they get on my nerfs!
