Quail - are quieter than chickens. I've been complaining about the noise. Told Crazy Lady and she wisely told me to stick to one species. Quail would require a whole new setup.

Order some of Ideals sumatras next year, they are quiet chicken. No bwaks or squaks unless they get startled. Just a purry little dernk derrnk noise. @RUNuts yes I do that when I want someone to weigh in on a thread now giving out like spam to bury it in your alerts!

I keep chickens for meat and eggs. I am under the impression that Sumatras are bantam type and not a prolific layer. Nicht wahr?

Only thing that they aren't good for is meatbird but the sumatra thread says good layers. Just not excellent layers. Also loads of aggression if kept cooped up.

I also need non flighty. I'm in a neighborhood. Unfortunately. Want quiet and dual purpose. The Leghorns were Crazy Lady's 'request'. I just ordered too many!

Falsch verstanden. Decent layers according to the Sumatra thread med to large white eggs. Just not layers like the RIR. Males 5pound, female 4pound mature at 6-8 months.

Oh yes best fliers of the chicken world. One was documented flying 5 miles over open water island hopping.

There is a bantam breed of Sumatra mine are LF, bantam sumatra just lose all the game bird looks also males top at like 24oz. Well, after sweating Ballz today working on roosting space there is at least 4 feet of roost unused and two jerks on the HC again tonight. These guys are just way too ungrateful for the effort I put in.
