Leghorns -19 weeks to first eggs

meh. None for me, thanks for the suggestion. Although island hopping sounds like fun!

Do like the all black. Australorps are on the list for the replacement dual purpose layers list. If I sell yard eggs, everyone is telling me brown eggs are better (?this confuses me, but people are stupid) for sales. I'll suggest it to brother, who feeds a lot of raccoons, owls and hawks. He needs a predator savvy breed. He has land and will keep roosters, this time around. We are learning together.

Geese or a donkey might help with the predators as well for your brother. I bet it is 50/50 on egg color some folks have never eaten a brown egg and think white ones are more sanitary. I've read green EE eggs people think have gone off date! Oh and you must have a roo to get eggs. I'm not sure if I really want to commit to breeding these birds up to a standard. I was looking my roos over today and only one is going to have a good comb he also has the gypsie face but wierd looking white ears and no heat tolerance. Non of these are really suited to breeding they aren't from ideal. I might just go with hens and cull all the guys once they get up to full weight or once aggression is no longer manageable. How many birds have you dressed out now?

Predator Savvy why is it the chicken's responsibility to protect itself from his night time predators when they are all blind in the dark?

Dressed out birds?
Chickens - I have cleaned 7 with help from daughter and BF.
Ducks - no idea. Stopped counting those years ago. Lots?

Brother had large guard dog of dubious lineage. She played in the road too often and lost. She was wild. Previous owner apparently mistreated her? She was people shy, but was coming around very slowly. She was there for goat protection. When 2 pit bull type dogs showed up and killed one goat and mauled the other, we think she was in heat. She got hit shortly after the goats (herd of 2 milking goats) were attacked. Like I implied, he is not having a lot of luck with the homestead. Costly lesson.

I suggested a goose. Wrong time of year so Ideal didn't ship it.
