Leghorns -19 weeks to first eggs

Pics
Dressed out birds?
Chickens - I have cleaned 7 with help from daughter and BF.
Ducks - no idea. Stopped counting those years ago. Lots?

Brother had large guard dog of dubious lineage. She played in the road too often and lost. She was wild. Previous owner apparently mistreated her? She was people shy, but was coming around very slowly. She was there for goat protection. When 2 pit bull type dogs showed up and killed one goat and mauled the other, we think she was in heat. She got hit shortly after the goats (herd of 2 milking goats) were attacked. Like I implied, he is not having a lot of luck with the homestead. Costly lesson.

I suggested a goose. Wrong time of year so Ideal didn't ship it.
hope that was meant to be daughter and her BF, otherwise you might wan't to avoid sharing this much info with your wife. Sounds like he needs an electric fence too. Yeah I can't order my sumatra hens from them until Jan for Feb pickup.

Also for Raccoons I've heard peanutbutter on the wire is great for Raccon. Just turn off the electricity when you apply it.

Oh, predator savvy for the hawks that live in his front yard over the chicken coop in the big tree. Yes, I suggested a covered run but he wants free range...

Some peoples kids!
I doubt many chicken varieties would do well in that scenario having nesting hawks directly above the coop. Of course I'd run em off with a shotgun blast not hitting the hawks (as that is probably illegal) then pull down the nest. Tell your brother he really needs SQ stock so he gets some common sense after $80-120 livestock is carried off and eaten. Bet he will come around to the covered run idea quicker that way.

Yes, her's. Crazy Lady politely informed me that I have to let them date and choose the right one. Otherwise, I'm stuck with them forever. Not a bad thing, but I'm told we want grandkids.

Brother's oldest has peanut allergy. BAD! Hospital bad. No peanuts on the property.

We discussed electric fencing for the coons. Still need a roof for the hawks.

No she wants grandkids that visit you :old
My daughter's BF lived with us for a while actually the entirety of his senior year of HS and made me feel like Red from that 70's show. I find it hard to believe they are still together guess my daughter has a soft spot for Dum#$sses. Granted he is a sweet guy and quite polite but likes wrecking cars a bit much for my taste. I think 3 in the last 2 years and I saw the FB pictures of two of their former BMW's doing the turtle thing.
I'm really sure 50x50 bird netting isn't that expensive compared to shipping costs for replacements.

I'm wondering if ideal would let me pick-up on a Friday. I so want to take my wife back to our favorite Austin Haunt http://satellitebistroandbar.com/dinner-menu/ their Champagne Gorgonzola salad, well, I haven't had a salad that good outside of France. How does this sound:
champagne gorgonzola
Mixed greens, grape tomatoes, pickled red onions,
Gorgonzola cheese,
dried cranberries, candied walnuts, Champagne Vinaigrette…

Fridays are the only weekday they open at 11AM its 4PM for the rest.

Coming up on 2 weeks of eggs. Quick review so I can remember next week.
Friday = 3 small white eggs
Saturday = 3 eggs with one brown, all small
Sunday = 1 small white egg

Monday = 4 Eggs today from 18 hens! A first for this backyard starter flock.
8 Leghorn/Ideal 236 = 3 white eggs. 2 still small, one made it to medium!
3 RIR with only one of these laying = 1 small egg.
4 Barred Rocks - tight not close. Reddening combs, but call them pink.
3 Production Reds are now New Hampshire Reds are the biggest and least mature. Small pink combs and tight pelvic bones.

4 eggs, all in the same nest on the golf balls. Total is 22 eggs, 4 brown
Funniest thing, I think the smallest white leghorn, only one with straight comb, is the most prolific layer. Most egg songs and most times that I've seen her on the nest.

Speaking of which, egg song is something else. Not what I had imagined.

Glad your chicken taught you something new! No changes here 5 for sure roo's, one I think I'll name "Pat" because it is so ambiguous in appearance, and 2 for sure pullet. Luckily you have your breakfast omelets for a few days now=), better stock up on salsa!

I'm waiting on the avalanche. Didn't plan on keeping this many layers! Lots of volunteers to help me eat them though.

Starting a garden, want home grown tomatoes for homemade salsa. And cilantro. I wonder how bulb onions will do in the raise beds. Slow. Soil first and it will come. The cherry tomatoes have little green ones now. Fall garden has started. Jalapenos really didn't make like they did last year in the half barrels. Hmm. Time for new dirt.
