I went to make a safety hole and then it started to stink. I’m guessing it’s dead? It smells like the rotten one

Ok, I guess I’ll investigate further.

Note to self: don’t ever add a safety hole to a potentially rotten egg in your bedroom.

This is what happened when I went to add the safety hole: this liquid started fizzing and bubbling out of the shell, with an atrocious scent.

Any idea what the cause of them rotting could be? Is it because they were on the dirty side?
