Let’s Talk About Bird Flu

So bird flu seems to ravage through the Netherlands. His means that non-commercial owners of poultry need to shield their poultry from wild birds and their droppings. Meaning they can still go outside (but need a roof). Could be a tarp or something else.

I am wondering how this would work in practicality. As is general knowledge chickens are jungle/forest animals, so I have trees in my run. How am I supposed to shield them from wild birds droppings with tall trees in the run? As I live in a very wet area, how do I make sure the water from the tarp/temporary roof doesn't end up in my run? Or make the tarp just fill up?

Even though they have a spacious coop locking them inside is not preferable as I am dealing with bullies.

It's not practical. It's people behind a desk in a fantasy.

I have a similar run. Also I am on a hill so my neighbors water runs through my poultry yard when there's a big rain or snow melt.

The commercial poultry farm business /CEO’s dont give a d*mn about hobbyist and small keepers with chickens. The lobby from the animal feed industry, large slaughterhouses and huge farms is tremendous.

And another thing. The rules in the Netherlands don’t say explicitly that you need a roof or tarp above the run. Only that you need to shield your poultry away from wild birds. They give an aviary as an example. There are huge fines if you don’t obey and you get an inspection.

Further more if you have sick chickens with suspected avian flu symptoms, you have to warn the authorities. Its written they will come to test your poultry. If they suspect its AI too. They are not going to wait for the test results and kill your whole flock immediately.
