Let that Rooster Crow 🐓

We have 2 roosters, a Silkie rooster (Thor) and a Mille Fleur (Miles) who is loud but we find ourselves looking forward to his grow every morning. Lately Thor is chiming in with a much more “docile” low key crow it brings a smile to our face every morning. We had to rehome 2 Silkie roos but these two are getting along so far, despite the fact we only have two hens.

I had a Mille , his name was Napoleon, so sweet, something got him when the were out in the orchard freeranging, my fault, I did not get them into the coop in time.

I love his sound but had to quiet my Roo with a no crow collar as we are not technically supposed to have roosters in our community. More importantly I don’t want him waking up out nice neighbors. I’m torn by having to use the collar. He seems fine with it but at the same time he struggles to crow and it’s kinda sad to me,
He’s an accidental Roo I got at 2 day old and had been my buddy for nearly 6 months. As he has grown I made sure to have him sit next to me for our cuddling time as I read if you put them in your lap they can take that as being dominant over you. All was well until a few days ago when he attacked me as I went into their yard to give them some scratch. He tore my leg a bit but I won the battle and things were ok for a day or so and today he did it again. I think He’s trying to for head Roo position. That’s mine so he’s out of luck. I won again today and he’s been back to normal for the day but this is not the relationship I want. I found a fellow farmer in the area who takes roosters for natural bug control. He’s going to go tomorrow morning. I’ll be sad to see him go , I’ve loved our time together but he’ll be happier without his collar and will be with other Roos who can teach him some manners
His girls may miss him some but will get along just fine with out him as they don’t really need protection, I’m writing this again( sorry if you’ve read it before) because the posts on this thread mention how Sweet their guy is at a few months old. I can tell you it kinda hurts to have em turn on you and not just the cuts and bruises they inflict physically, it hurts the heart too. I’ll be happy to have him report for duty on his new big patrol unit tomorrow and will wish him a happy new life. I will enjoy less stress in the coop and Bawk yard with the ladies.

What are all those different colored fences, I love them? Look like pallets.

we currently have 17 roo's i have 7bantam roo's and 1massive roo that i don't know what he is in my main coop they have all grown up together and get along great and I have a batchler coop that has 9residents so far it is for rescued roo's for those that live within 3hrs drive of me for people that can't or won't keep roo's i will drive and pick them up and give them a great home and spoil them until they leave this world naturally I will have to take pics of the rest tomorrow some i just got so they are still in lock down so they know this is home and they are not totally freaked out by my dogs and cats (they won't hurt them but I don't want the roos to hurt my dogs and cats)

So you have 17 Roos all together with hens ... and it works? Nobody trying to kill the other? I’m debating what to do with the roos from my recent hatch ...

I have only had my chickens for a year now. One of my girls was broody in early spring so we got her 4 one day old female chicks. The Swedish flower hen was more outgoing than the other 3 from the first day. She started growing faster and her comb and wattles were bright red by 6 weeks old. I soon soon realized my favorite girl was a boy. I unfortunately can't have a rooster where I live. I am trying to find a good home for him. The only replies I have gotten so far are asking if they could have him for food. I understand that he is a chicken. I eat chicken myself but I love all of my chickens and consider them my pets. I am not sure what to do.

I do love his crow. I even recorded it and made a notification sound for my phone with it. The only problem is that he starts at a little bit before 5:00a.m. and crows ALL day until around 9:00p.m. my neighbors have been understanding so far, and we are making sure that they have as many eggs as they want.

Anyway, I love him, I just don't know what to do with him.....

I love my white Silkie roo “Prince Charming “. He takes care of all baby chicks, keeps the peace in the flock. In the mornings he’s first one out, in evening last one in to make sure everything is ok. He always greets me with a crow. It’s so cute. When I bring treats, he is right in front of me eating out of the bowl, getting petted.

Let that crow!!!

I don't have photos to go with this, but all the talk about roosters crowing reminds me that sometimes neighbors are surprising tolerant.

About 1984, my ex and I moved from a more outlying area to an old neighborhood right in downtown Tucson. We were breeding several varieties of chickens at the time, so we had a lot of roosters.

My ex insisted that the only appropriate place for chickens in the whole yard was about 8 feet from the neighbors' bedroom window. I went along, with the assumption that we'd have to move the chickens or get rid of them entirely.

Sure enough, the next morning our new neighbor knocked on the door. When I answered, he said, "I just wanted to tell you how much my wife and I enjoyed those roosters crowing this morning. We both grew up in the country and hadn't heard roosters in 20 years."

So never make too many assumptions about people until you know them.

what kind of chicken is the white one? I got some hatching eggs from a barnyard mix. chicks are now 13 weeks old. One looks exactly like your white one

This is Otis -- my accidental cockerel. He is my best buddy right now -- truly my favorite. So far he has taken down a 4 - 5 foot rat snake in the run, helps me round up the 14 ladies in the evening, sleeps by the hen house door so that they don't leave before I close up the coop at night, goes with me to collect the mail, and loves to eat raisins that I sneak to him from my apron pocket. He's the only one who has never pecked even at my shoes. He always comes to me, and is easy to pick up and carry around. We technically aren't allowed to have roosters in my neighborhood -- but I have 600 acres of woods behind me -- so only the sides and front of the house to worry about -- and one curmudgeon neighbor to ply with eggs and sweet talk. I have a NoCrow collar ready to go... because the only other options I have found so far for Otis are basically a death sentence. I'd rather send my neighbor, than Otis, to freezer camp...View attachment 2271302

We have 3.....not by choice, luck of the draw from the store. Trying to convince hubby to let me kill 2 for dinner....no luck. I don't want them fighting and they already attack me & my kids but they don't have spurs yet lol
