Let's compare gas prices

I have been trying to reduce other costs too. I have cancelled our vacation for this year - I just don't see spending the gas money. We have changed all of our lightbulbs to the florescent (sp?) kind and I am holding out as long as possible before we turn on our air conditioner. That's a big part of the reason I want to get my chickens (eggs and meat) and start having a garden.

Gas was 3.53 this morning, then 2hrs later it when up to 3.63.

I'm researching the pros and cons of getting a newer more fuel efficient vehicle, even though my current one is paid for.

I currently have a 50 mile round trip commute to work (though, this may be changing to half that amount within a week or two). I also lowered my speed to 60 mph (last year), and yeah other people get angry but like you said "they aren't buying my gas". I've not yet started running my a/c window units (trying to put that off as long as possible), and I've been hanging clothes to dry rather than run the dryar when the weather cooperates. I still need to change over to the more efficient light bulbs, which will happen when I run out of the other ones.

Anyways, my point to this was that I'm also trying to reduce my fuel usage whenever humanly possible.

*note: My credit counselor questioned my choice of budgeting my fuel at $3 a gallon a couple of years ago (in 2006). She didn't think it would happen and now it's over that and climbing!

$3.59/gallon regular unleaded. Disgusting. We don't even drive except to the grocery store, feed store and doctor anymore. We stay home, no entertainment, no eating out, no movies, nothing. I even cringe having to drive 4 miles to the P.O. every Monday morning to mail hatching eggs to customers. This isn't what our retirement was supposed to be. Cant even drive to look at the beautiful scenery in our mountain area, which was what we particularly enjoy. That's over.

$3.79+(cash) for regular unleaded here in the SF Bay Area... with forecast of $4+ soon.

$4.35 was the cheapest I found for diesel

I am a consultant and work from home about half the week - but the other half... let's just say I still can put near 3k miles/month.

I have significantly cut down 'random' errands, and string most stops together. I also decided to get a road-bike to do some of the lighter close errands.

Holy *bleep!*... Gas is $3.98 for 87 octane this afternoon...$4.19 for diesel. I need to dust off the bicycle, and hubby needs to get out the motorcycle. This is nuts. I remember in '81 when I paid $1.42/gallon... for PREMIUM! 10 years ago, when I left Colorado for AK, I paid $0.98/gallon in Cheyenne, WY. Insane.

I will be buying a motorcycle here soon, hopefully within the next couple of weeks. I can't stand this.

Think Cassandra said it best when she said some of us struggle with the decision over a gallon of gas and a gallon of milk. This is ridiculous.

And yet you can go get a couple of convicts from the jail to do your lawnwork or building stuff, or whatever, and you have to pay them NO LESS than $7.50 per hour, and keep them at LEAST four hours. And they have no expenses. WTH?
